MATHS

This year, the Foundation students have been taking part in a trial of a new program being developed by MultiLit to support the development of student’s maths skills. MultiLit is a leading provider of effective, evidence-based instruction in Australasia. All MultiLit programs are based on the most recent scientific evidence-based best practice.

Upwey South Primary School have been very lucky to have been selected to trial InitialMaths. InitialMaths has been designed to incorporate all core number skills. These skills, often referred to as ‘number sense’ include knowledge of numbers, number relations and number operations.

InitialMaths lessons follow a certain structure. We begin each lesson with a brief overview of previous learning from past lessons. As new skills are introduced, they will appear frequently in these reviews to develop fluency and ensure maintenance of learning. The program is delivered five times per week. Day/lesson 1 and 2 is a focus on number, day/lesson 3 is a focus on Measurement and Geometry or Statistics and Probability and day 4 and 5 is a number focus.

We are very excited to be given the opportunity to take part in this amazing program and are looking forward to seeing the mathematical growth in the students.

This Term in InitialMaths, we have learned rote counting - forwards and backwards, how to correctly form our numerals, how to subitise, used tens frames, played counting games, learnt about daytime and night time, morning and afternoon, weekdays and weekends, directional language, circles and triangles and AB patterns.

HARMONY DAY

Our Harmony Day Celebration was the perfect opportunity to acknowledge our unique qualities by celebrating our diverse heritage and cultures. Students came to school dressed in the Harmony Day colour of orange or in an outfit that represented their culture/country they have links with or have a personal interest in.

FOUNDATION SPECIALIST TIMETABLE

Our Term One Specialist timetable

When students are participating in Health and Physical Education (HPE) and Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) it would be best if they were wearing sneakers or shoes that they can move around in. Please note that this timetable can change! We will keep you updated if this occurs.
