Maths Overview

Students have worked so hard during Term One, touching on many different Mathematics units. This was done to remind and reinforce the students prior knowledge of Mathematics leading up to the NAPLAN tests. Our mathematical lessons have been engaging and hands on and allowing the students to make connections with the world around them. Lessons have been based around our teaching model 'The Gradual Release of Responsibility', lending its way to the students participating in challenging and differentiated tasks. Worded problems and challenge projects have backed up the learning through multiple exposures and problem solving. Students have also been engaging in online maths programs such as Mathletics to complete tasks based on the weeks topics.

The topics we covered during the term are:

Number - Place Value, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division and Fractions

Measurement - Converting 12 and 24 Hour Time, Calculating Elapsed Time, Converting between Metric Units of Length

Space - 2D and 3D Shapes

Statistics - Data and Graphs

Harmony Day

On Friday 21st March we celebrated Harmony Day. On this day we celebrated the different cultures that live in Australia. During the day the classes spoke about the meaning and purpose of Harmony Day before doing some activities. It was wonderful to see different cultures represented or wearing the colour orange.
