Year Two

Communicating with the Year Two Team

We look forward to partnering with you in 2025, and welcome your input:

When communicating with the Year Two team, please reach out via the below email addresses. Your child's class teacher is your first point of contact when requiring a discussion. You will usually see us outside the classrooms at the end of the day. This is the preferred time to catch us for a quick chat as we are focused on greeting the students before school.

Please also note that we have scheduled meetings at 3.45pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Maths in Term One

The Year Two students have explored a range of mathematical concepts throughout this term.

Place Value:

We explored the value of numbers up to the thousands place. Using a variety of games, songs and hands-on materials the students read, wrote, built and modelled 3 and 4-digit numbers.

Time:

In our time lessons, the students all made their own analogue clock using a paper plate and a split pin. Our focus was on reading and writing analogue and digital times to the hour and the half hour. In second semester we will move onto reading quarter to and quarter past times.

Money:

We explored Australian coins and notes through a variety of 'shopping' learning experiences. There was an excited buzz in both classes as the students made shopping lists, added up their total using coins and notes and collected the total amount of money required by handling our play money.

Statistics:

Our final maths concept for this term was collecting data and graphing. Our culminating maths experience was tallying and graphing a fun sized packet of M&Ms. This was a highlight for many of our Year Two students.

Home Reading

Thank you to all the students who are remembering to bring their reading diary and green wallet into school every Monday for book swapping and checking.

Class teachers are continuing to assist the students to select a book that is not too hard, not too easy, but just right. This may continue to take time for some students to get accustomed to selecting their own reading material.

Reminders:

Week 10 is our last week of term. On Friday 4th April school finished early at 2.30pm.
