INTERNATIONAL DAY OF MATHEMATICS DAY - 14th March

We are running two competitions to celebrate UNESCO's International Day of Mathematics. The theme for 2025 celebrates the creativity found in mathematical discovery.  You can enter, one or both competitions if you like!

Competition 1 - Collective Tessellation Art

Interested students can collect a colouring sheet from their teacher.  Students need to colour in their sheet using pencil only.  Tessellating art displays will then be created using the coloured sheets.

Coloured sheets must be returned to your classroom teacher by Friday 28th March 2025.

Winners will be selected in the following sections:

  • Foundation

  • Junior (Grades 1 and 2)

  • Middle (Grades 3 and 4)

  • Senior (Grades 5 and 6)

In order to be considered for the prizes, please ensure that your child's name and grade are clearly written on the sheet in the spaces provided.

Competition 2 - High Score Factris - Online game link: https://mathigon.org/factris

Factris is similar to Tetris, where you have to arrange falling blocks using arrow keys, and when you fill an entire row, it disappears to make space for new blocks.  There are 2 differences in Factris

  • The blocks are always rectangles. Instead of rotating them, you 'refactor' them. Eg a block might start as 12x1 tiles, but you can press the up key to change it to 6x2, 4x3, 4x4, 2x6 and 1x12.

  • Every tile in the 1st row is worth 10 points, 2nd row is worth 20 points, 3rd row is worth 40 points, 4th row is worth 80 points and so on.

There is no undo, so pay close attention to the rectangles coming next.

Winners will be selected in the following sections:

  • Foundation

  • Junior (Grades 1 and 2)

  • Middle (Grades 3 and 4)

  • Senior (Grades 5 and 6)

  • Parent/carer (Please join in the fun!)

To enter, take a screen shot or photo of your high score and send it to moorabbin.ps@education.vic.gov.au. (1 entry per person please).

DOES YOUR CHILD HAVE A MEDICAL CONDITION THAT REQUIRES MEDICATION AT SCHOOL?

A medical management plan and a supply of medication must be in place for every child enrolled at Moorabbin Primary School, who has a diagnosed health care need, (e.g. anaphylaxis, diabetes, epilepsy, asthma, allergy or relevant medical condition.

The child’s medical practitioner must prepare the plan, and the parent/carer must then provide it to the school.

The Department of Education mandates that only updated medication can be administered. We will contact you when both your child’s plan is up for review and has expired, and also, when their medication is about to expire. Prompt return of these documents/medication will assist the school in managing your child’s condition.

Click on the relevant link below if you require a plan for your medical practitioner to complete.
