What have we been Investigating in Discovery Time this term?

The Prep students have been working on their Fine Motor skills through play-based activities. They have been participating in a variety of challenges, such as, button sorting (using tweezers), block balancing, threading, and Lego building. Fine Motor activities develop strength in our hands, which help develop our writing skills.

They have also been looking at different social skill this term.

The students have been looking at making connections between thoughts and feelings. We discussed thought bubbles, how our brains can create thoughts, and our hearts help us feel different feelings. We read a story about children working together, by combing their thoughts and feelings to build a block city as a team. As a class we then created a plan of what our city will look like and what we will need to include. The students then created a block city together through dramatic play, being mindful of the plan we made and how our thoughts can impact other people ‘s feelings if we don’t work together.

We then move on to looking at what we need to do to work as a team successfully. We looked at how it is important to follow a group plan, and what happens if we don’t.  In pairs, the students created a plan to build a farm. The students worked as a team to follow their plans to build their farms using block and farm animal figurines.

We cannot wait to see what else we will be investigating in Term 2!
