SENIOR School Update

Dear Parents/Carers and Students

Term 1 has been an action-packed and rewarding start to the year at the Senior Campus, filled with opportunities for our Year 11 and 12 students to connect, grow, and embrace new challenges. Our Year 12 students set the tone with enthusiasm during their Orientation Program, while the introduction of our weekly Optima Pastoral Care class has strengthened relationships and provided valuable support to students. Students embraced the first term of assessments (SACs and SATs) with determination, and our VCE VM students have positively engaged in structured workplace learning one day a week, gaining real-world experience.

The Year 12 Formal was a highlight, celebrating friendships and milestones, while Harmony Week showcased the inclusive spirit of our school community. VET programs have been running smoothly, offering students hands-on learning in their chosen pathways. Throughout all of this, we have focused on the themes of resilience and connection, reinforcing the importance of perseverance and support as students navigate their senior years. Finally, the energy and house spirit on display during Swimming Sports and Senior Sport competitions capped off a fantastic term. Well done to all students and staff for their efforts - we look forward to an equally dynamic Term 2!

Year 12 September Holiday Practice Exams

Looking ahead, we want to ensure our Year 12 students are well-prepared for their end-of-year examinations in October/November. As part of this preparation, we have scheduled important September Holiday Year 12 Practice Exams. These exams are compulsory for any student completing a Year 12 subject and serve as excellent preparation for the final assessments. Included below is a copy of the schedule. These examinations are run by our VCAA Examination Supervisors and marked by experienced VCAA Assessors.

Attendance

Students are reminded that, in Years 11 and 12, they are required to maintain 90% attendance to be eligible for a Satisfactory ‘S’ result. Attendance is a key enabler to ensure students do not have gaps in their learning. There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes. Absences from assessments need to be supported by authorised documentation (medical certificate or approved school excursion). It is vital that holidays are planned during school holidays where possible, and not during the term. If you are planning to go on holiday during term time, make sure that you contact the Attendance Officer in advance, and work with the school to develop an absence learning plan.

Thank you to the Senior School Team for their support of our Years 11 and 12 students throughout Term 1. Your care and efforts are greatly appreciated. We look forward to welcoming our students back next term. Enjoy a lovely holiday break.

To summarise Term 1 on the Senior Campus, let’s hear from our Year 11 and 12 Captain Teams who have collaborated to prepare a short paragraph to capture the term on behalf of their peers.

"As students move from Year 10 into Year 11 VCE, the transition can feel daunting or even overwhelming. However, at Frankston High School, the shift from the 7-10 Campus to Senior Campus is smoother than many expect. Throughout this year’s transition, Year 11 students have embraced the high expectations of the Senior Campus while making the most of its impressive facilities. Spaces like the Silent Study Space and Presentation Space provide great environments for study and catching up on missed work.

Frankston High School also ensures that students feel supported, with dedicated teachers and Student Wellbeing Counsellors always willing to help navigate the challenges of VCE. Many students find that their relationships with teachers evolve during their VCE years, fostering student voice, agency, and independence. With rewarding opportunities and a supportive environment, we are thoroughly enjoying Term 1 on the Senior Campus." - Your Year 11 Captains

"It’s been a fantastic and eventful start to the year for the Year 12 Leadership Team, with plenty of initiatives, events, and student-driven projects making an impact at our school. One of our biggest highlights so far was our International Women’s Day Breakfast, which saw an amazing turnout. A huge thank you to Tyra, one of the main organisers of the event, for her dedication and hard work in making it such a success, as well as Blake take on the role of MC. It was particularly encouraging to see so many male allies supporting the event, helping to foster a culture of inclusivity and respect within our school.

We also kicked off Harmony Week, launching a student input wall in the Senior Presentation Space. Through Optima classes, students have been contributing their thoughts and reflections, showcasing the incredible diversity within our school community.

The ESLC Summit brought together student leaders from various groups, including the Eco Team, Interact, Sports Leadership, and House Captains. The event was a great opportunity to align goals and strengthen collaboration for the year ahead. A big thank you to Ms Greenhill, Mr Batchelor and Mr Christie for their support in making this event possible!

We’ve also been working on improving our Presentation Space to transform it into a collaborative resource hub. Our goal is to fill it with study aids and SAC resources to better support students in their learning. Additionally, we conducted a Café Program Survey to explore the idea of opening the café before school and potentially involving students in its operation as part of a structured program—exciting developments are on the way!

Lastly, our Year 12 representatives—Blake, Maddy, Callum and Tyra— attended the Leadership Breakfast at Toorak College, where they engaged with leaders from other schools and bring back fresh insights for our student community.

It’s been an incredible start to the year, and we can’t wait to continue making 2025 a year of leadership, student voice, and meaningful change!" - Your Year 12 Captains
