Notizie Italiane

Natale is fast approaching and our learning in Italian is coming to a close for the year. In our classes, we have been discussing Italian Christmas traditions, including learning about La Befana, the kind old lady who brings children presents on the Epiphany (Jan 6th) just as the Three Kings brought gifts for the baby Jesus.

The end of the year also means it is time for our Semester Italian Awards. Well done to all students who have earned pegs this year (and that’s everyone!). Pegs are given for various contributions in class, especially when students spontaneously use Italian or make connections between Italian and English.

Here are the award winners in each class for Semester Two:

  • Prep      Isabella, Grace, Claire, Leo St
  • 1/2CH   Sylvie, Will BL, Harriet, Jasmeen
  • 1/2RB   Will N, Evie, Alessia, Alexander
  • 3/4C     Matthew, Emma, Harry, Jeremy
  • 3/4S     Ayaan, Emily, Christopher, Michael
  • 5/6A     Mietta, Lachie, Libby, Violet, Jess
  • 5/6W    Harry, Seth, Sarah, Pete, Claire

Complimenti a tutti!  These students will be acknowledged at the final assembly for the term on Monday 11th December.

Grazie to everyone who made an effort to use the Italian Word of the Week (la parola della settimana) throughout the year. Our wonderful Italian leaders chose a weekly word or phrase to focus on, tallied up the number of uses for each class and announced the winning class at each assembly. This class received the ‘Italia’ shield (pictured) to display in their classroom for the week.

Grazie mille to Sophie and Ellyse for the outstanding job they have done as the 2023 Italian Leaders.

Across the course of this year, it has been magnifico to see students developing their awareness of Italy and growing in their confidence to use the Italian language.  Keep up the great work everyone!

Auguri di buon Natale!  Best wishes for a happy Christmas!
