Learning and Teaching

On Wednesday evening we held an Information session for our 2024 Prep families. During this session, we had the pleasure of listening to two of our School Captains, Cyprus and Teagan, speak and reflect on their time at LPS.  Besides sitting with absolute pride whilst listening to our captains, there was a noticeable theme that ran throughout their reflections.  Both girls spoke about the many opportunities they were afforded whilst at LPS.  These ranged from being involved in Virtual High Abilities Programs (VHAP) and representing LPS at various sporting events to simply being involved in the different lunchtime clubs or fun events such as the Colour run.

I think the core themes elucidated by our School Captains is one that underpins what makes our school so great.  Our students and staff alike, welcome opportunities to either support or enhance their learning as well as self. At LPS we have many wellbeing supports and programs in place to help our students thrive and consequently become comfortable with being challenged in their learning. We also have an array of extracurricular activities such as productions, environmental focus groups, sporting events, and lunchtime clubs. Sometimes it’s important activities and opportunities such as these that connect our students to our School.

This year we’ve seen students engage and push themselves with Maths Masters and their learning goals.  Students have taken the opportunity to challenge their learning to achieve skills and subsequently belts. This has seen an increase in the number of students who are selected for the Victorian High Abilities Program in the area of Maths. This, as with all our academic accomplishments, is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our teaching staff, support staff, and students.

We are pleased to let you know that we have accepted an opportunity to work with the Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) and Science of Language and Reading Lab (SOLAR) through La Trobe University to improve our knowledge and practices in Reading instruction.  This opportunity and learning will equip us with a set of evidence-based practices and resources to ensure that our students are being exposed to evidence-based best practices.

Our students' eagerness to take on many opportunities during their time at LPS helps inspire us to take on new opportunities to continue to grow and improve.
