The Arts in Term 4

Ghosts eating toast, skeletons dancing, Addams Family cup passing games and poison rhythms?? What is going on in The Arts this term, you may ask.

Reception- Year 3 classes

Miss White had a fright

In the middle of the night

Saw a ghost eating toast

Halfway up the lamp post

Students have been learning about beat, rhythm, expression and space through working with this poem. They have used body movements, scarves, xylophones and non melodic percussion instruments such as triangles, claves and sand blocks to explore these elements of music and dance. Some classes also drew their interpretation of the poem and painted ghosts using their fingerprints.

Year 3/4/5/6 classes

Students across these year levels have participated in beat and rhythm exercises using spooky tunes such as the theme song from the Addams Family and a Skeleton Dance piece from Disney. They have experimented with the pentatonic scale using xylophones and are now composing their own music for a Halloween chant using an assortment of percussion instruments.

Hackham Has Talent

Auditions are well under way for Hackham Has Talent 2023. Our committee consists of eight Year 6 students -Tyra, Lily R, Kalani, Harper, Destiny, Lily K, Matt and Lilly H who have been hard at work judging acts from across the school. They will soon be choosing the best performances to go through to the final on the last day of term.

Choir

Last Tuesday night, twenty four students sang their hearts out at the Southern Metropolitan Music Festival at Hopgood Theatre. After spending nearly three terms learning the repertoire of thirteen songs, including soprano and alto parts, these choristers performed with confidence, energy and joy making all of us watching extremely proud. Congratulations to Milly W and Alexis S whose artworks were chosen for the front and back cover of the programme. Huge applause to our two soloists, Lily H who sang a beautiful solo, “Follow My Own Dream” and Lola B for her expressive narration in the song, “I am the Earth”. Thank you to Neva Camac and Danni Hansen for your assistance at the rehearsal and concert. Many, many thanks to Tori Hay who has helped me with Choir practices, Solo Club and lots of organisation throughout the year!
