Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

PUPIL FREE DAY - MONDAY 20TH NOVEMBER

A reminder that Monday 20th November 2023 is a pupil free day. Staff will be busy with assessment and reporting tasks.

CLASS GROUPINGS 2024

The class groupings for 2024 are being settled now. Thank-you to all parents for your requests and inputs. The timeline for that has now closed.

READY, SET, GO! FOUNDATION TRANSITION PROGRAM

Thank-you to Julie Giblin and Jacqui Matters for delivering another successful Foundation readiness program.

It was great to see our new school community members arrive at school and participate in classroom and outdoor activities.

Thank you to Skye Nichols for liaising with the families and for co-ordinating this program.

It will continue in the coming weeks to ensure all is in readiness for the start of the new school year.

SHERRY JOHNSTONE CLASSROOM VISITS

On Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th November, classes from Foundation to Year 4 will have an education session with Indigenous artist and educator Sherry Johnstone. Sherry will be sharing the picture story book “Fair Skin Black Fella’, by Renee Fogorty, with the children. This book is about a young girl called Mary who lives on a cattle station. She is shunned by the local girls because of her fair skin. Old Ned, a community elder, speaks up and teaches the girls that Aboriginal identity transcends skin colour and that family, community, country, culture and spirituality is what being Aboriginal is really about. Older children will also discuss the Department’s definition of racial discrimination which is: unwelcome conduct of a cultural nature towards another person which could reasonably be expected to make that other person feel offended, humiliated or intimidated. It may be verbal, visual or written.

GOVEMBER

Well done to all the students and staff participating in GOvember. We are well on track to meet our targets.

A life-long commitment to exercise and healthy living is the ultimate aim and it is so good to see so many students running, walking and cycling.

The Standard were at the school this week talking to staff about our efforts. A great article was published so please when you have a moment take a look.

ART EXHIBITION - TUESDAY 21ST NOVEMBER 2023

Preparations are under way for our Art Exhibition opening next week. Donna Dixon and the students have worked very hard this year to create some wonderful displays.

In all my years in education I have not seen a better Art display by Primary School students. It will be great to see many parents, grandparents and friends through the door.
