Primary School Assemblies

Monday 4 and Tuesday 12 December

The last two Primary School Assemblies for the year will take place on Monday 4 December and Tuesday 12 December. Both will take place in The Farrall Centre and will commence at 2.15pm. We welcome families to attend our final Assemblies for 2023.

ABC Radio Christmas Performance - Primary Choirs 

Tuesday 12 December

On 12 December, the Years 3-6 choirs have been invited to sing Christmas Carols live on ABC radio. The broadcast will start at approximately 9.30am and will be accessible via the ABC playback feature on the ABC radio website:  https://www.abc.net.au/listen/live/hobart

Vacation Care Bookings

A reminder that we are once again offering a Vacation Care program for The Friends’ School Kindergarten to Year 6 students during the Term 4 holiday period. Our  upcoming Vacation Care Program runs from Thursday 14 December 2023 to Wednesday 31 January 2024  (closed 23 December 2023 - 7 January 2024). Bookings are made via Storypark Manage. Click here to complete your Term 4, 2023 vacation care bookings.  Bookings close at 6.00pm, Friday 1 December 2023. Year 2 Musical 

Friday 1 December

Year 2 students will be performing ‘The Rock Pool!’ on Friday 1 December at 2.15pm. Everyone has been working hard to learn their lines, songs and actions and we can’t wait to share this with our Year 2 families and Morris classmates. The performance will be in The Farrall Centre. 

Primary Schools Triathlon Challenge

Friday 1 December

A reminder to those Year 5 and 6 students entered in the Primary Schools Triathlon Challenge that it is to be held on Friday 1 December at Bellerive Beach. Students involved will travel by bus to and from the venue. Any enquiries please contact Lisa DiVenuto.

Moving On Day and Year 7 Orientation Day

Monday 4 December

Moving On Day is on Monday 4 December. The purpose of this day is to establish positive relationships between next year’s teachers and classmates before the long holiday. It is also a wonderful opportunity to introduce our new students into the school. Students will spend time with their teacher for next year and get to know their new classmates. 

 

Families will receive a note at the end of this day communicating their child/ children’s classroom teacher for 2024. We have taken great care to ensure that the 2024 class groups support all the children’s best interests and learning needs. We value your support in making this a positive transition.

 

For Year 6 students, Year 7 Orientation Session 1 will also be held on Monday 4 December 2023 from 8.45am until 3.00pm. Students are not expected to wear school uniform on this day, however, they should wear casual clothes that are suitable for some easy and fun physical activities. Year 6 students do not come to Morris on this day but will meet in the Clemes Foyer with other new Year 7 students between 8.45am and 9.00am. Students should bring their own lunch and a drink bottle on this day.  Please note that pick-up at the end of the day for students being collected by car is in Boa Vista Road.

Year 2 Parents’ Tour of Walpole

Tuesday 5 December

On Tuesday 5 December, current Year 2 parents are invited for an informal tour of Walpole. The Year 2 children will take you on a tour between 8.45am and 9.30am. Please go to the Year 2 classroom first so that your child’s attendance can be recorded. You are not expected to stay for the entire duration, it is an opportunity for you to become familiar with the upcoming change of location. Please contact Deputy Head (Year 2 - 6), Wendy Crow if you have any further questions about learning in Year 3. 

Year 5 Art Exhibition

Tuesday 5 December

Year 5 students have been inquiring into 'How we express ourselves' under the central idea, 'Creative thinking unlocks a world of possibilities.' We have explored how and why artists convey messages or provoke thinking around concepts, issues and personal perspectives. Students have created a variety of artworks to express themselves using an array of media.

 

We invite you to explore the messages they are sharing through their artworks on Tuesday 5 December from 2.30 - 3.15pm in the Bark Chip area. If it is raining, the exhibition will take place in the Year 5 classrooms and Walpole Deck.

Morris Council - Free Dress Day 

Thursday 7 December

On Thursday 7 December the Morris Council has organised a used shoe donation day to support Kingston Neighbourhood House. The shoes can be any size or style. Please bring the shoes to the bark chip area on Thursday, where all shoes will be placed to make an artistic creation, before being put into bags and relocated to Kingston at midday. Please ensure the free dress outfit is suitable for learning and play time with enclosed shoes. 

Year 5 - Outdoor Education Excursion - Coningham Beach

Friday 8 December

On Friday 8 December, as part of our Outdoor Education program, all Year 5 students will be visiting Coningham Beach. Our focus is on working together, connecting with the natural environment, decision making and initiative. The students will work through various activities including a walk, rock hop, initiative activities and photography. Outdoor Education teacher Lauren Stranger will be accompanying the students along with the classroom teachers and other support staff. Students will need to wear clothing suitable for the weather conditions (consider good sun protection). Pack spare shorts or trousers, a warm jumper (e.g fleece, not cotton), sun hat, sun cream, waterproof raincoat, lunch, snacks and water bottle. We will be leaving school at 9.00am and returning at about 3.00pm. 

Year 3 - Outdoor Education Excursion and Sleepover

Thursday 7 - Friday 8 December

The Year 3 School Sleepover will take place from Thursday 7 December until Friday 8 December in The Farrall Centre at school. 

 

On Thursday 7 December we will be travelling by bus to explore the coastline of the Alum Cliffs Kingston. Students should come prepared with sturdy walking shoes, and in their sports uniform - choosing appropriate clothing for all conditions (including a warm jumper). 

 

They will also need a raincoat and broad brimmed sun hat, a big lunch with lots of snacks, a full water bottle and any required medication (labelled and handed to the teachers). Students are advised to put sunscreen on prior to arriving at school, and bring extra to reapply. 

 

On Friday 8 December Year 3 will travel by bus to the Newtown Rivulet to undertake a service day, cleaning up around the rivulet as a way of taking action to protect platypus habitat. We will have lunch at the John Turnbull Oval and play in the playground, then walk along a section of the track to Ancathe Park. From here children will undertake a 3D maths challenge, a clean up along the walking track and learn about the flora and fauna of the area. We will then be picked up from here and return to school. Students will be making their own lunch at school and packing snacks provided. They will take a full bottle of fresh water from school, their hat. Students will be required to put on sunscreen before we go.

Year 6 end of year events

All parents are invited to attend the final Year 6 Assembly on Monday 11 December at 9.40am in The Farrall Centre. Each student will share something about their time in the Primary Years. The assembly will run for approximately an hour and be followed by morning tea, outside The Farrall Centre foyer. Please arrive to be seated by 9.30am.

 

In the Evening, the Year 6 social will be held in The Frank Wells Hall. Children will be signed in at 6.30pm and signed out at 8.00pm. We ask that parents come to the door to collect their child. Please email your child’s teacher about any alternative arrangements for their pick up. Dress code is casual smart clothing, similar to when they might go out to a nice restaurant. We want students to feel comfortable to dance and participate in activities on the night. We ask that students do not bring technology to this event. Staff will be taking photos during the social which will be available for sharing the following day.

Last day of term - Primary School Celebration

Wednesday 13 December

On Wednesday 13 December the Kindergarten to Year 6 classes and staff will be coming together as a learning community at Bell Street Sports Grounds to celebrate the last day of the 2023 school year, having lunch and enjoying a range of games and activities together. Students will be departing school at 10.50am and will return to school by 2.30pm in readiness to farewell our Year 6 students who are moving on to Middle School. Students may wear sports uniform for the day and require a packed lunch and water bottle. All students will require a hat, and sunscreen will be applied prior to departing school and throughout the day. Drop off and pick up arrangements will remain as normal for this day.

If your child will be absent from school for the day please advise the Office (phone: 6210 2228, or email: primaryschooloffice@friends.tas.edu.au ) and the classroom teacher before 9.00am. We appreciate your support in this process.
