Students reflect on the Charles Darwin Uni Science Excellence program

Earlier this term students embarked on a trip to Darwin to explore the field of Science and the opportunities at Charles Darwin University. Year 11 students Olamide and Viraaj reflect on their trip below.

In my opinion, this science trip was a highly enjoyable and informative event that taught us more about science in a fun environment while allowing us to utilise and view a range of modern technologies. Using the microscopes to identify different water bugs, playing with a VR headset, and programming the robots and drones to carry out certain tasks were some of my favourite parts, aside from meeting new people and making new friends. Apart from our university stays, we had many

opportunities to explore Darwin, which gave us a great chance to decompress and rejuvenate following our hectic days. I would strongly advise the next students to seize this chance at all costs— it is well worth it! ~ Olamide Adeyemo

The trip to Darwin for the CDU immersive was an amazing trip as it offered various opportunities for us to engage in the field of science and technology. There were numerous activities that required us to communicate and collaborate with one another. Two of the students were from rural areas, while the others were from Darwin. We worked on projects such as looking at blood cells/epithelial cells under an electron microscope, metal reactivity, water IDing bugs, robotic arm workshop, drone workshop, and 3D printing workshop. During this process, there is a strong likelihood that you will make lifelong friends who share your interests. After the day's events concluded, we had the option of exploring Casuarina Square or taking a stroll ideally to the beach which was a pleasant way to wind down. However, if you were in my place, you would be in your room preparing for exams that are coming up next week. If you are interested in science and technology, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you. So, please take advantage of this unique opportunity as it may broaden your horizons and provide you with more options for what you may choose to do after Year 12! ~ Viraaj Williams
