Week 9, Term 3
🌱LITERACY
In literacy this week, students will be continuing to run their own Literature Circles based on their class novel (Grade 6 - Hating Alison Ashley, Grade 5 - Runt). Each person in their group will focus on a different role and contribute their responses to their teacher-led discussion group.
In writing, we will be continuing to look at poetry. We will analyse the features of a range of poetry types including Haiku, Odes, Shape poem, Diamonte poem and Limericks. We will then have a go at writing our own poems following these structures.
The table below outlines the Language Conventions we will be looking at during our Literacy sessions.
What you can do at home
Help your child to set aside time to read - preferably every night. This will help them build important learning habits. Your child now has access to Reading Eggspress, to help with adding variety to their range of text choices.
🌱MATHS
Students will be expanding their understanding of angles. They will find angles in geometric shapes with and without a protractor. Students will also be estimating, constructing, measuring and classifying angles.
What you can do at home
Revising these ideas by completing the Mathletics homework would be the best help this week. Don't forget, students can also access 'My Numeracy' section of Essential Assessment for targeted Mathematics practice.
🌱HOMEWORK
- Mathletics - minimum 1000 points from the work that has been set or 20 minutes, 3 to 4 times a week.
- Reading 20 minutes per night, 4 times a week (Reading Eggspress is available)
- Recording events in their student diaries
- Grade 6s will continue working on their Graduation Memory Book.
📗GRADE 6 MEMORY BOOK
A suggested timeline and high quality examples have been posted to your child's Showbie account under 'Memory Books'. They have been briefed on the expectations and have been encouraged to follow the suggested timeline where possible. We look forward to seeing their completed books in late Term 4.
The pages for Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 should now be completed. Students should be working on their Grade 3 page and have this completed by Sunday 22nd September.
GRADE 5 BUDDY BAGS
The fourth task in creating their Buddy Bag will be to write a letter to their buddy. The details of this task will be explained in class and will also be uploaded to Showbie for easy access. High quality examples have been posted to your child's Showbie account under 'Buddy Bags'.
📚PREMIERS' READING CHALLENGE
Remind your child to upload their reading to their Premiers' Reading Challenge account if you would like them to participate in this challenge.
HATS ON
As of September 1st, we would like to remind you that our school adheres to the SunSmart policy set by the Victorian Government. All students are required to wear a broad-brimmed hat when outdoors from the 1st September when UV levels are typically higher.
Please ensure your child brings a hat to school every day to protect them from the sun's harmful rays.
Thank you for your support in keeping our school community safe and sun-smart.
