Level 3 & 4 Wonga Weekly

Week 9, Term 3

WEEK 8 LEARNING

CBL

This week we will unpack the 'Abundance and Scarcity Mindsets' and how these can positively or negatively impact our thoughts and therefore our social interactions and relationships with others.

What you can do at home:

Share and discuss the CBL work that students have completed at school and helpful ways to shift a Scarcity Mindset into an Abundance Mindset

📚 Literacy

Phonics

We are looking at suffixes including 'tion, 'sion', 'ture' and 'ure'.  Students continue to build their vocabulary through daily exposure to word definitions and how these can be used in writing. Grade Threes will use iPads to publish written poems and Grade Fours will continue practicing touch typing on a school-provided keyboard, as they publish their poetry using their iPads.

What you can do at home:

Talk to your child about prefixes and suffixes and find examples of them.

List words with the above patterns and sounds and sort them. You could find these in your reading.

Reading

Students will continue to be immersed in a range of poetry and will identify literary devices, rhyming and syllabic patterns. We will focus on developing rhythm and emphasis when reading aloud in fluency pairs with a selection of poems.

What you can do at home:

We encourage you to model reading different types of poetry (rhyming books like Dr Seuss, Mem Fox and Pamela Allen) to your child as well as listening to them read at home. Encourage your child to set aside time to read every night, include time to read aloud and or record themselves reading on their iPad. Some students are participating in the Premiers Reading Challenge, this is a great way to expose your child to a variety of literature.

Writing

Students will continue to explore writing poems with a range of structures including Diamante, Limericks and Cinquain Poems. They will learn to use a range of rhyming patterns and literary devices.

What you can do at home:

As a family, come up with some funny limericks.

Example from the creative minds of 3B!

My friend is called Bobington snake

She made us a delicious cake

She cut us a slice

We thought it was nice

We ate it right beside a lake

🎲 Maths

This week we will measure with metric units. Students will estimate, measure, order and compare length. Students will be challenged to see the connection between millimetres, centimetres and metres and convert between these different measurements.

What you can do at home

Encourage your child to measure objects at home using a range of measuring tools. Discuss the need to be accurate with your starting measurement.

Complete 400 points of Mathletics including all set task.  You can support your child to practice their times tables. In Grade Three, our focus is on 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s. In Grade Four we continue to strengthen these as well as building in 4s, 6s, 7s, 8s and 9s.

🌿 REMINDERS

🌱 Students are encouraged to bring their iPads fully charged each day

🌱 We are quickly running out of tissues and wipes, we would accept any donations with gratitude

🌱If you can help out for SAKG, please check your emails for the volunteer link.

🌱 We are using whiteboard markers and boards everyday. We recommend that students could bring a set of their own that are labeled.

🌱 Hats On

As of September 1st, we would like to remind you that our school adheres to the SunSmart policy set by the Victorian Government. All students are required to wear a broad-brimmed hat when outdoors from the 1st September when UV levels are typically higher.

Please ensure your child brings a hat to school every day to protect them from the sun's harmful rays.

Thank you for your support in keeping our school community safe and sun-smart.
