From the Year 3 Classroom
Wishing all our dads and father figures a wonderful Father’s Day on Sunday. We hope you enjoy your special day with your loved ones.
Reading - We’re excited to start our next Reading unit, which will focus on Persuasive Texts. In this unit so far, students have learnt about:
The Purpose of Persuasive Texts: Understanding why these texts are written and what they aim to achieve.
Features of Persuasive Language: Identifying how language is used to persuade the reader.
Finding Arguments: Learning to spot the main argument in a text and understanding different viewpoints on the topic.
Sequencing Events: Putting events or points in the order they happen to better understand how the argument is built.
Comparing and Contrasting: Looking at different arguments on the same topic to see how they are similar or different.
Writing-
Students are currently working on writing to persuade, which is where the writer writes to get you to do or try something or convince you of their opinion. We are exploring several topics including persuading parents to get a pet, dogs are better than cats, animals should not be in a circus, just to name a few.
Mathematics-
Students have done a wonderful job learning new concepts around 3D shapes. We have looked at the names of shapes, faces, vertices, edges, and nets that make up the different 3D shapes. Students have used hands-on resources to be able to help visualise these different properties and shapes in our environment. Students will complete a Post Test before moving on to our next unit ‘Angles’
Reminder to continue practicing Timetables, even those students who have passed.
Inquiry-
We are back into our geography unit- ‘Where in the world are we?’ Last week we looked at natural and man made features of various places in Australia. We practised locating them on a map using grid references and labelling our own blank map of Australia. This week we are learning more about maps and their features, including; scale, NESW directions, colour coding, map legend and key etc. We have had a go at being a cartographers, creating our own map of our classroom.
Religion-
It is one week until our Year Three candidates make the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Our candidates have been presented to our Parish over the last fortnight with many parishioners praying for them on their sacramental journey.
The Year One students popped in to visit our Sacramental candidates and wish them well as they prepare for the Sacrament, presenting each candidate with a lovely bookmark. Thanks, Year One!
Finally, congratulations to Mitch Blomeley and Olive Kelly who made their Baptism last week.
