From the Year 1 Classroom
‘Reading is Magic!’ How amazing it was last Friday to see books come alive at our Book Week Parade. We all had so much fun celebrating our love of books and coming together as a whole school community.
The children in Grade 1 have loved learning about Poetry and we enjoyed the Poetry Slam last Friday to conclude this learning. What incredible poets we have at Sacred Heart Primary. Bravo!
Today we had our annual Father’s Day Stall which brings great excitement to the children to spoil and celebrate the male figures in their lives. We will be busy in class this week making a gift to go home to a special person.
We are very excited to have our little outing next week on Wednesday 4th of September at the Mulwala Pioneer Museum. We will travel by bus, leaving at 1pm and returning at 2.30pm. The children will eat an early lunch at school before departing for the Museum, so there will be NO lunch orders for Grade 1 students on this day. The purpose of this excursion is to explore the Past and Present to consolidate our learning of this topic. We have also been very lucky to have our amazing Mrs Boyer bring in items from the past to share with the students. If your child has something at home from the past that they would like to bring into school and share we can add it to our display and will take very good care of it.
In Reading and Writing, we move onto a new topic this week looking at Persuasive Texts and Persuasive Writing. We will be delving into what an opinion is, the purpose and features of a persuasive text and in this genre how we aim to convince someone to do something, make someone believe in something and change someone’s mind about something. We already feel like we have some great little debater’s on our hands!
In Mathematics, we will be exploring the concept of time in regard to calendars and telling the time on an analogue clock, with a focus on the hour and half an hour. This is definitely something that you can also do at home with your child.
In Religion, we have moved onto a new topic called ‘Our Call to Mission’. We will explore the concept of ‘mission’ as being like Jesus, caring and sharing in a loving way for people in need. Last week we made and delivered bookmarks to the Grade 3 students, who are preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
