As part of our Term 3 Inquiry unit about Space we read the story, “Awesome Emu” by Greg Dreise. A beautiful picture story book from Indigenous Dreamtime.

This story is a charming story that explains why you can see the shape of an emu in the sky when the nights are dark and the moon isn’t very bright.

If you Google this story you will see the shape of the awesome emu and where to find him in the sky.

The prep children have made their own Dinewah. (emu)

The indigenous people knew that when the emu could be seen in the sky, it was a sign that there were emu eggs laid and they would find some to add to their food.

Awesome emus
