Principal's Report

Dear Parents/Guardians and friends of Nazareth

We are already halfway through Term 3 and well into planning our 2025 staffing.  Last week, we advertised for specialised teachers, and over the coming weeks, we will commence the interview process for potential candidates with the hope of completing our 2025 school year staffing early on.

Last Friday was the closing date for our Year 7 2026 enrolments.  We have 210 interested applicants, and we are still 16 months away from their starting date.  This is a credit to our staff members, current students and families for how they engage in their schooling and community.

We request that families notify us if their child may be leaving Nazareth at the end of this year.  Please inform the relevant Pastoral Teacher in writing so that we are aware of enrolment vacancies for Years 8 -12 that we can offer places to students on our waitlist as soon as possible.

In the coming weeks, the school, through our Vocational Major project, will offer families an opportunity on Monday 9 September to participate in a cook-off.  We hope to build up reserves of frozen meals that can be provided to families in need.  It is hoped that parents can come in and utilise the school's cooking facilities to cook meals.  Ingredients will be provided, so come and help while enjoying the company of others in our Community.

Another project is the ‘Sacramental Program’ for any of our students or families wishing to receive any of the sacraments they have missed.  Students will be engaged in a sacramental program in the coming weeks, preparing to receive the sacraments.  At this stage, we have four students registered.  It is not too late to register.  Please email Mr Peter Stewart – Director of Faith and Mission, peter.stewart@nazareth.vic.edu.au

This coming Monday, the school reviewers will return to Nazareth to give verbal and written feedback on our recent review.  We anticipate taking on the recommendations and making them part of the School Improvement Framework (2024-2028).  Once these are articulated, we will make them known to everyone.

We have a new Nursing Team.  Over the last month, we have successfully recruited three College Nurses.  They will work as follows:

  • Monday to Thursday – Melanie Seufert.  Melanie will work in the Health Centre on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.  On Wednesday, Melanie will develop health education for staff to implement in their teaching;
  • Wednesday to Friday – Megan Loos.  Megan will be in the Health Centre attending to the health needs of our students;
  • Amber Carey – employed on a casual basis (when required) for the Health Centre.

We will now have the luxury of sending a nurse to camp without jeopardising care on campus.

At our recent Staff Dinner we acknowledged our staff members who have been with us for 30 years or more.

God Bless, and thank you for your support.

Mr Sam Cosentino
