Junior Ranger Program

Day one of the Junior Ranger Program was held Tuesday last week.  Students were introduced to a number of Anaiwan words and a couple of phrases.  All students who participated were fully engaged and appreciated the program and interacted with activities in a confident manner.  Feedback from students was positive and encouraging.

Farm Safety Course

During Week 4, Primary Industries students spent two days at the Rural TAFE campus in Armidale participating in a Farm Vehicle Safety Course. The ground was very wet and we were fortunate not to have too much rain fall on us during the two days.

Students learned how to complete pre-start checks for quad bikes and side-by-side vehicles before being instructed on the finer points of 'active riding' techniques. These techniques allow riders to safely navigate rough and uneven terrain by using the weight and position of the rider to balance the bike. The slippery and muddy conditions allowed students to really test out these new skills as they navigated hills, holes and fallen logs.

The effort and maturity of the students did not go unnoticed by our trainers who stated that this group of students was one of the most enjoyable groups that he had taught. Students who complete Primary Industries for the HSC are working towards completing a nationally recognised qualification - Certificate 2 in Agriculture. This course adds further competencies to this, and increases the employability and safety of our students in the Agricultural industry.
