Year 12 News

On 6 June, 50 students from Year 12 participated in this year's Vinnies Sleepout. At 5:30pm, students started rolling in with their swags and Oodies to prepare for the night.

The afternoon involved a scavenger hunt, games and our first meet and greet with Frankie the Wellbeing Dog. After a chilly dinner in the senior shed area, we watched the conclusion of the Women’s State of Origin game, then it was time for hide and seek before tucking into some ice creams.

After the fun and games, we came together to watch a documentary on the causes and impacts of homelessness in Australia to gain an even greater understanding as to why our cause was so important. After this, we settled into our swags to experience even if only marginally, what it is like to sleep rough. Whether it be the security lights that would be similar to street lights or shop signs streaking light constantly in, noises from trains or wildlife (yes the possum did pay us a visit) that make it difficult to get a good sleep. While all these seem small, it adds up to a rough sleep which impacts on individuals the next day and ultimately your performance at school or work, making it even harder to get ahead in life when the next night, the harsh experience will occur yet again.

We are proud to say that the St Vincent de Paul Society has recently received the funds that we raised, once again reaching our goal. We would like to thank everyone who contributed to this important fundraising event and also the following businesses for their support on the night and for their donations to our raffle.
