Impressive!
Last Wednesday night I attended the Year 12 Major Works Exhibition here in the Mary MacKillop Building. The night showcases the amazing achievements of our Year 12 students and their major works encompassing Visual Arts, Design and Technology and Industrial Technology – Timber. These works are the culmination of hundreds of hours of work by each student, ably guided by our talented staff.
The art works were so impressive, there were photographs and drawings, combined weaving and clay works. Reading the descriptions of each piece gave an amazing insight into the journey each one of our students has undertaken. Some of the most moving pieces for me were those that touched on their family and heritage.
The Design and Technology projects shown allowed us to gain an insight into what is possible in the future. Concepts included support to enable people to improve their posture, redesigning school buildings as well as improvements in car charging stations for home use. We have many challenges to solve in society however, with the intelligent minds of our young men, the future is bright.
The workmanship on the timber works continues to go from strength to strength each year. There were many bars that I am sure will take pride of place in backyards, cabinets and shoe storage projects as well as a guitar. The finishes on these projects were at industry standard and our young men should be congratulated.
Thank you to everyone who turned up to support our young men. It truly was a memorable night.
