Co-curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3

One of the great things about being a teacher at St Patrick’s College is bearing witness to the journey boys take over their time here. For some, the journey is long, filled with new learnings, exciting challenges, personal growth and hopefully the development of some lasting memories. For others, the journey can be short, but not less powerful.

One student that has experienced a short journey at St Patrick’s College is Leonardo Oliveria. He commenced at the College this year, in Year 5. From the very beginning it was obvious that Leonardo was a very talented footballer. Playing at the highest level and regularly dominating, it was only a matter of time before his talent was recognised and he would be snapped up by a club. This is exactly why Leonardo has had such a short stint at the College. He recently signed with SC Braga, Portugal.

Braga is one of the strong clubs in the Portuguese league and has a good reputation of success in their youth academies. Leonardo will be residing there while he balances his schooling with his football commitments. Congratulations Leonardo on such a well-earned, amazing opportunity. We wish you all the best for your new and exciting adventure and look forward to hearing about your experiences. We hope to see you back at the College from time to time, when you are back in Australia.

A little closer to home, the CIS Athletics Carnival was held last week and St Patrick’s had three representatives attending. Jaidyn Shehadie, Malietau Davis and Xavier Ziino were all very competitive in their events. Against quality opposition, the boys stayed strong and can be proud of their efforts. Congratulations must go to Malietau Davis who placed First in Discus and Shot Put. Malietau now competes for the CIS team at the NSWPSSA Athletics Carnival in October. Good Luck Malietau!

The Junior School Sport Photos will be held in the College Hall on Tuesday 17 September. The photos will be for both Summer and Winter sports, as well as squads and boys that made representative teams. A few points for photo day:

  • Boys are to wear their Supporter’s uniform to and from school.
  • No head gear, mouthguards or shinpads are required for the photos.
  • Boots should be worn for Winter sport photos.
  • Boys selected in squads are to wear Supporter’s uniform for the photo.
  • Boys that play in representative teams are to wear their representative uniforms.
If not available, then the Supporter’s uniform is to be worn.
  • Boys without the correct uniforms will not be permitted to take part in the photo.
  • Boys playing AFL will return their guernsey after the photo has been taken.

A timetable will be placed in every classroom for the boys to record their photo times. Due to the times available and schedule, all rugby photos will occur after school, from 3:05 PM to 3:20 PM.

I look forward to a great day of photos. Information on how to purchase photos will come in upcoming Especean articles.
