Thornbury Sport
Darebin Division
The Darebin sport choices in Term 3 for the Year 7-10’s are basketball, table tennis and hockey. There was team success early in the term with the Year 9/10 girls and boys table tennis teams winning their respective events! Year 9/10 basketball was again a popular sport with plenty of participants. Both of our ‘A’ teams made it to the grand final but were narrowly defeated in their games!
We look forward to the junior sport events to come in the second half of the term!
North Metro Region
Five of our teams have competed so far in NMR finals in Term 3 and have all done very well. Congratulations to our two teams that won their event days and have now progressed through to the State Finals!
> Year 9/10 boys netball had three convincing wins in the pool rounds to advance to the grand final. Our team was trailing early, before bouncing back to take out a 5-goal victory!
State Finals are scheduled for September 2.
> Year 8-10 girls soccer won the intermediate region finals. Fantastic performances across the event day, scoring 15 goals in total and not conceding a goal! State finals are up next on September 10.
State
State Cross Country was held on Thursday July 18 at Yarra Valley Racing Club. There was plenty of rain in the days preceding the event which led to very tough conditions for the runners! Our five athletes (Michaela Belles, Lynn Kodsi, Jemima Sagar, Stella Cook & Fatima Kodsi) all competed exceptionally well.
Special mention to Michaela Belles for finishing in 7th place out of a field of 100 runners in the 12/13 girls age group race!
