Leader of Pedagogy

Ms Natalie Mellowship (Years 7-9) & Mrs Jenny Roff ( Years 10-12)

Our Leaders of Learning recently visited St Mary’s Armidale to view their data walls and take a tour of the classrooms on a Learning Walk and Talk.

A Learning Walk and Talk is a process promoted by Dr Lyn Sharratt, a highly accomplished practitioner, researcher, author and presenter. Lyn has visited our Diocese on numerous occasions, and she places the 14 Parameters of system and school improvement at the core of her work. When these 14 Parameters are integrated they make a difference to increasing students’ achievement. And within those 14 Parameters, there’s always the question that we’re asking as leaders – how do we know that all of our students are learning?

Learning Walks and Talks are a tool to support leaders and teachers to answer that question. They also empower and enhance learning for staff as instructional leaders. They offer opportunities for us to provide appropriate support to students and teachers, and they provide data to plan the next steps in professional learning. Learning Walks and Talks develop opportunities for us to have authentic conversations with one another. Finally, the data that is collected provides information about the trends and patterns across our school and informs our teaching.

A huge thank you to the staff at St Mary's for making us feel so welcome and for showcasing their wonderful school.
