CAPTAIN'S CORNER

SENIOR CAPTAIN

As the Summer holidays approach, things are beginning to wrap up at school, with exams and VCE orientation week complete.

As VCE exams finished on Wednesday 20 November, it has been an anxious three week wait for all VCE students for Thursday 12 December when VCE results are released. For Year 12 students especially, it is the culmination of thirteen years of schooling, and is five minutes of relief, excitement or disappointment.

On Friday 29 November, the McK Respect Community Walk was held to raise awareness for violence against all genders. This included a sixteen lap walk around the oval, barbecue, music and artwork created for the walk.

On Tuesday 10 December the Year 6 Orientation Day took place to give the current grade 6s some time to adapt to the school environment before being thrown into the mix of other year levels next February.

The last few weeks after finishing my VCE exams have given me an opportunity to reflect and think back on my time at McKinnon. From the grade 6 Orientation Day, where I was unsure of what this big new place would bring, to the last day of school ever, with everyone just enjoying the last day together with those who we have made lifelong connections with; it has been a privilege to be at this school that has taught me so much both inside and outside the classroom. Signing off for the last time as part of the 2024 leadership team.

JUNIOR CAPTAIN

What a whirlwind of energy it's been as 2024 races towards its final chapters. McKinnon has been alive with excitement, wrapping up the year in true style. From thrilling celebrations to sneak peeks at the future, we’re going out with a bang and getting ready to dive into 2025 like never before!

On Friday 29 November, McKinnon capped off the month with the McK Respect Community Walk - 16 laps of pure joy around the McKinnon Road Campus oval. With music pumping, a sausage sizzle, and even an ice cream van on hand, the atmosphere was electric! The McKinnon spirit was undeniable as everyone came together to celebrate our amazing community in true style.

The milestones didn’t stop there. On Monday 2 December, Year 9s bid a heartfelt farewell to junior school and the East Campus with a graduation ceremony that wasn’t just a goodbye - it was a celebration of the exciting new journey that awaits us.

From Wednesday 4 December to Friday 6 December, the Senior School Induction program gave Year 9s an exciting sneak peek into life at the McKinnon Road Campus. We jumped straight into our first Year 10 English and Maths classes, and also participated in Peer Support training, preparing us to help guide the Year 7s of 2025 through their transition into high school.

Overall, 2024 has been nothing short of epic, and as Junior Deputy School Captain, I couldn’t be prouder to have been a part of it. Wishing everyone an incredible, well-deserved summer break and an even brighter, more exciting 2025 ahead!
