Year -1/2 Unit
Wow, can you believe it’s already nearly the end of Week 6? This term is really flying by, and our Year 1/2 students have been incredibly busy and engaged in their learning!
In Reading, the students have wrapped up their exploration of non-fiction book features and have now shifted their focus to poetry. They’re learning about the rhythms, rhymes, alliterations, similes, and metaphors that make poems so special.
In Writing, we've completed our unit on informational texts and are now delving into the world of poetry. The students have been having a blast experimenting with different styles, including simile poems, food-themed poems, and rainbow poems (just to name a few).
In Math, we’ve wrapped up our unit on Multiplication and are now exploring Division. The students have been happy to use counters and other manipulatives to divide amounts into equal groups and are learning how to use arrays for sharing amounts.
On Monday the 12th the students enjoyed participating in an engaging workshop from the Macedon Ranges Shire Council, focusing on the four types of waste bins: landfill (red), recycling (yellow), glass (purple), and food and garden organics (green). The session emphasised how proper waste sorting can significantly benefit the environment by reducing overall waste. Students learned about the correct items for each bin through interactive discussions and videos featuring Rollie, the Macedon Ranges Waste Mascot. They then had the opportunity to practice sorting waste into the appropriate bins, reinforcing their new knowledge and skills. They also enjoyed a fun sorting game where they ran around pretending to be pieces of rubbish, ensuring they ended up in the correct bins.
Additionally, the students had a wonderful time dressing up as their favourite book characters for Book Week. They looked fabulous as they embodied all the different characters from their favourite stories!
