Dear Parents,

2024 Winter Appeal

Luke and Colin were living in rented accommodation, until the place was sold out from under them. Even though Luke was working five days a week in a bakery, he just couldn’t find another place they could afford to rent. Luke and Colin, along with their beloved dog, Ruby, went from living in one unsafe boarding house to another. After being turned away from countless rentals who would not allow Ruby and moved on from abandoned buildings, they were forced to live in a tent.

But Luke knew this was not a long-term solution. Colin's lung disease is a constant challenge. "I was so worried about him. I didn’t care about me. I just wanted to get him sorted.” Luke said. That means more people like Luke, who are working, and many others simply can't find anywhere to live. And they need your help now.

On behalf of St Francis Xavier, we would like to extend our gratitude to all families in our community who donated warm beanies, gloves, scarves and socks to those in need. The office foyer was overflowing with generous donations and we still have other warm pieces coming in throughout the week.

All donations will be collected over the next week and picked up by a member of the St Vincent De Paul Society.

Father’s Day Breakfast and Liturgy

On Sunday 1st September, we celebrate our fathers, grandfathers, uncles and fatherly figures in our lives. We acknowledge fatherhood, paternal bonds and the efforts they put towards their families and the society. We also think of Saint Joseph, Jesus’ Father, who models faithful fatherhood.

God the Father gave up his only Son, Jesus Christ, so that we might be saved through him. He provides an example of the very vocation of fatherhood. Fathers sacrifice their lives for their families. They are a spiritual leader and guardian, pray for and with their families, are courageous witnesses to the Gospel, provide care and support to their families, serve as an example of goodness and truth and lead with courage and accountability.

The students at St Francis Xavier are looking forward to creating something special for all our father figures at St Francis Xavier on Friday 30th August. The morning will commence at 8:20 am with breakfast, followed by a special liturgy prepared by Years 3-6.

We look forward to this special occasion!

‘God took the strength of a mountain,

the majesty of a tree,

the warmth of a summer sun,

the calm of a quiet sea,

the generous soul of nature,

the comforting arm of night,

the wisdom of the ages,

the power of the eagle’s flight,

the joy of a morning in spring,

the faith of a mustard seed,

the patience of eternity,

the depth of a family need,

Then God combined these qualities

When there was nothing more to add,

He knew His masterpiece was complete,

And so, He called it … Dad’
