Dear Parents & Friends of SFX
What a joyous occasion it was for our school community as we celebrated the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady at Mass this morning. The atmosphere in the church was incredibly reverent as the children sang beautifully to hymns dedicated to Our Lady. We were also honoured to welcome Dr. Jacqueline Frost, Chief of Staff at Sydney Catholic Schools, who was highly impressed by the children's reverence during Mass and their exemplary behaviour during her classroom visits.
Last night, we hosted our inaugural Winter Sleepout at the school. The playground was buzzing with excitement as children, along with their dads and other father figures, enjoyed quality time together. The event was designed to give the children a safe yet impactful experience of the challenges faced by the homeless. It's vital that our children develop an understanding of the struggles faced by the poor and needy in our society, and last night’s event successfully conveyed this important message. A heartfelt thank you to all the men in our community who attended, and kudos to our dedicated teaching and support staff who gave up their personal time to ensure the evening was a success.
Last week, we celebrated Australia’s first saint, St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop, with a beautiful Mass followed by a stage production of her life. Mary was truly a strong woman of faith and resilience, serving as a model for us all to aspire to.
During the last holiday period, Mrs. Scullion, several staff members, and I attended the funeral of Mr. Euan McGuire. Many of you knew Euan as one of our most steadfast and loyal volunteers. I was privileged to say a few words in honour of Euan's remarkable contributions to our community. He was a tremendous support to our school community and truly embodied the spirit of Serviam.

On Monday, August 6th, I had the pleasure of showing the parent community our new building and playground. It was wonderful to see the delight on the parents' faces as they toured the new facilities. This building has been a long time coming and will serve as a fantastic space for both students and staff.
We are currently awaiting final council approval to access the building, and I will share further information with families once the children can begin using the new grounds.
The official opening and blessing of the new building and playground will be held on Friday, 20th September at 9:30 am, and all parents are warmly invited. I will provide more details later in the month.
I would like to inform you that I will be taking some long service leave from Thursday, 22nd August to Thursday, 29th August. During my absence, Mrs. Scullion will be the Acting Principal, i am confid that she will do an excellent job.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend ahead.
Brian
