SCHOOL OF POSSIBILITIES
What’s the year 11 VM students been up to?
R U OK? Day - September 14, 2023
The year 11 VM PDS class as part of the curriculum are required to organise a community event so this year the class are planning activities across each of the schools to raise awareness around mental health. The theme for R U OK? day for 2023 is ‘I’m here to hear’. The focus for the School of Innovation and School of Possibilities students will be, ‘What do I say if someone tells me they are not okay?’ R U OK? day videos and information will be in the student bulletin in the week leading up to the day to help educate students around the message. For the School of Wonder the message will be around, ‘How to be a good friend?’ Students are in the middle of organising displays in the windows near the community lounge 2 and in the School of Wonder. Balloons and streamers will be added to the displays closer to the day and information posters are being put up around the school and on main notice boards.
The students are working in three main groups and are responsible for one area of the school i.e. School of Wonder, School of Innovation and School of Possibilities. Students are going to record a message with a video that will be watched in an extended pastoral group time on the morning of R U OK? day. This will be followed by a number of different activities and a kahoot which will be different depending on the year level of students involved.
Students will complete an activity where they will write a message on a bubble and add it to the displays. Once students have added their message they will receive a raffle ticket. This ticket will allow students to receive some food from the BBQ at lunchtime. The year 11 students are working in teams to prepare food, cook food and serve the student body during the day.
Community visitors
The year 11 VM PDS students have been working in groups to organise guest speakers for our class as part of their assessment for outcome one. This supports the students' learning about ‘What is community?’ The unit focuses on the benefits of community participation and how people can work together effectively to achieve a shared goal. Part of the requirements was to look at different groups within our community.
We have had presentations from a diverse range of people. Some of the presentations to date have included: a retired couple who have migrated to Australia from the UK to live here permanently, a Psych Nurse from Dhurringle prison, a member of the Shepparton South Soccer Club, a Wildlife Keeper and Education Officer from Kyabram Fauna Park, Tina Thompson who is the Indigenous Liaison Officer at St Anne’s College.
The culmination of these presentations will be written up by students as a journal of guest speakers and a personal reflection about the connection to community and any take away messages they learnt from the speaker.
Year 10 Camp
A reminder to families to complete the now overdue Year 10 camp survey is current. This survey helps us to finalise camp accommodation details as well as cater to dietary requirements. You will find the link to the survey on PAM.
Year 10 Formal Update
The Year 10 formal committee consisting of Charlie Ratcliffe, Alick Jarvis, Charlotte Seddon, Liliana Cirillo, Jayda Kennedy and Will Skinner held their first meeting last week. As a result, Year 10 students have voted on a theme! We look forward to sharing updates as we begin to plan this exciting event.
Unit 3 and 4 Holiday Exam Preparation
Unit 3 and 4 Psychology and Business Management classes are working hard preparing for their upcoming external examinations. Please ensure that families are familiar with the schedule for holiday exam preparation opportunities.
Year 12 Rugby Tops
Students in Year 12 in 2024 have chosen the design of their Year 12 rugby top. Students have been asked to complete an initial order form, indicating their preferred name for the back of their jumper. The cost of the Year 12 Rugby jumper will be $90. Students will be required to make payment to the college via CDF pay. We will not be able to forward orders for students who have not made payment. The jumpers will be manufactured by Bob Stewart, our regular uniform supplier, and sizing will be consistent with the current PE school rugby jumper. You may visit Goulburn Valley School Uniforms High St to try on jumpers for sizing, but the store will not be able to order your jumpers. All orders must be completed through the college using CDF pay. Please use this link to pay for the Year 12 Rugby jumper: 2024 Year 12 Rugby Top
All experiments are learning learning experiences...
Snap shots around The School of Possibilities over the last week caught students engaged in a range of electrifying and explosive experiments as they participated in both Chemistry and Psychology classes.
Below are images of the U4 Psychology class utilising electromyographic equipment to record signals from the neutral firing within muscles, while the Y11 Chemistry class video demonstrates an explosive redox reaction.

Important Year 10 Dates
We are very excited to confirm dates for the Year 10 Melbourne City Camp and Year 10 Formal. The Year 10 Camp will take place from Wednesday 25th October to Friday 27th October 2023. The focus of this camp is on building students' capability to use public transport, connecting students with higher education providers and enjoying some of the attractions of our state capital. The much anticipated Year 10 Formal will take place on Friday 10th of November. Both the Melbourne City Camp and the Year 10 Formal are compulsory school events and all students are expected to attend. If families have any concerns over their students' ability to attend, for any reason, I encourage you to contact me as soon as possible. In many cases, we can make adjustments and allowances to support all students to access these events in some capacity. Please mark these dates in your diaries. Students who are employed are advised to notify their employers of their unavailability on these dates.
Reminders about expectations
Pastoral Group attendance
Students should arrive at school in time to attend pastoral group each morning commencing at 8.55am. This is an important part of the day and a time for prayer and reflection. Teachers are able to follow-up with students and check in on how they are doing. Daily messages are delivered to students at this time. It is vital that the school completes accurate records for attendance and the roll is marked during this session.
Uniform
It is expected that students wear the correct academic uniform to school on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On Tuesday and Thursday students are permitted to wear their PE uniform, again this should be the full correct uniform including the St Anne’s tracksuit pants or shorts. Year 10 students completing the sports coaching elective are permitted to wear their PE uniform on Thursday in addition to the above.
Use of air pods and mobile phones
Students are not permitted to use air pods or mobile phones while at school. These items are to be left in students lockers during the school day. Parents are asked not to ring their child’s mobile phone while they are at school or expect them to receive text messages. If you need to get a message to your child during the school day, please contact the front office who will deliver the message on your behalf.
Your support on these matters is greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Sarah Baglin & Meredith Lia (SOP Leaders)

The VCE Exams Navigator 2023 should be read by all students presenting for 2023 VCE external assessments. It contains important information about what you need to know for VCE external assessments. A hard copy was distributed to all students present in class on Friday July 21st by the subject teachers of: VCE Unit 3&4 Psychology, Business Management, and Vet Engineering Studies. If a student was away, please see the VCE Coordinator for a hard copy. We advise students to retain the VCE Exams Navigator 2023 until they obtain their VCE results.
