F/1/2 News

The F/1/2 students have continued to have a great term of learning.

The students participated in a variety of different experiences during book week. The students enjoyed joining live virtual incursions with authors. The students participated in a session with Andy Geppert who is the author of Backyard Birdies. They discussed different birds and learned about practising drawing the same picture to get better at it. The students in particular liked making their own drawings where they combined two animals. The students also participated in a session with Matt Cosgrove who is the author of the Macca the Alpaca series. The students enjoyed listening to Macca the Backpacker and drawing their own alpacas. They learned that as long as they could form a y, o, and u, they have the base of drawing the character.

In Maths, we are finishing our unit on division and multiplication. The students have become more adept at sharing objects into equal groups in practical situations and have been learning how to write equations. The students have also been learning how multiplication and division are connected and practising their 0, 1 and 2 times tables. We will soon be starting a unit on fractions. The students will start off mastering how to identify half and what half means before moving into quarters and eights. This is key stepping stone learning for when we cover time and reading analogue clocks next term.

In English we have been continuing to learn about non-fiction texts. We are just about to embark on an individual research project on a sea animal, where they will make an animal fact file.

We have also been learning about oral health and how we can look after our teeth.

                              Grade 3/4 News

This fortnight has been an exciting one with book week celebrations. It was excellent to see everyone dressed up in their favourite book characters. We had an excellent day celebrating the shortlisted books this year.

In Auslan we have been enjoying Tim's visits each fortnight, The grade 3/4 class have been doing an excellent job engaging in the lesson and learning new signs.

Our new favourite sport Kade had taught us this fortnight is 'chicken'. We loved wearing a yellow cone on our heads to show when we were the chicken.
