State Of Origin Ignites The Fire In Academies

The Bairnsdale Academy had the opportunity to participate in the first selection camp held at the Phillips Foundation Camp in Strath Creek in regional Victoria. The State of Origin is a new concept in the foundation, bringing all states together to compete in the game they cherish. The Vic Academies will go through a selection criteria to participate in the Origin, with attendance and behaviour being an integral part of booking their spot on the remaining camps. The next opportunity is a game against Melbourne High, which will help select our team for the Origin Carnival. The benefit of camps and getting the boys together is a big win for all academies, and we look forward to the next game against Melbourne High.

Kids Put On A Clinic

Young footy legends take the field kicking goals.

The Bairnsdale Clontarf Academy members facilitated an Auskick Clinic for over 220 students at the Swan Reach Reserve.

The local primary schools jumped at the chance to participate in the Super Clinic after the success of last year's event held at the same venue, and the weather was superb, ensuring the day went off without a hitch. The event was supported by partners Woolworths, AGL, and Bunnings, who provided all the food from our local Bairnsdale store. Bunnings again showed up in numbers, ensuring all kids were catered for with a sausage in bread and a piece of fruit.

The AGL crew helped run the drills and really engaged with all the Academy members on each of the stations set up and planned by Year 11 student Peter. The local East Gippsland Shire, along with East Gippsland Water and AFL Vic, also provided support for the clinic with equipment or other needs on the day. The event sent everyone home with a smile on their face, as they had the opportunity to get off school grounds and back into some normality running events, empowering leadership, personal development, and instilling much-needed confidence for Academy members, while helping primary school students develop their motor skills and exercise.

Bring on next year as it will remain on the planner and continue to grow moving forward in 2024.

Once again, thanks to our crucial partners who participated on the day, providing financial support and staff on the ground.

Last but not least, it was Brady Egan's last day, who was instrumental in helping coordinate the event, and we wish him well in the future.
