Year 10-12 Work Experience opportunities reopen in Term 4

 

Work Experience is available to students that are 15 years old+. Please drop into either careers Hub for further information.

 

SWL is available to students doing a VET Course in their VCE/VM Pathway. See the Work Placement Programs advisor.

 

SBAT’s are available to Year 10 -12 students through our Headstart Program (Aaron Patton) by application and availability only. 

 

Prepare for Term 4 Work Experience by:

  • Dropping in to the Careers Hubs for further information.
  • Complete an Expression of Interest (EOI): Career Action Plan (CAP)/Safe@Work Certificates and obtain White Card* (If required – Building Industry placements)

VCE VET & VCE VM VET – Pathways explained

Post Year 12 Tertiary Education Pathways:

Successful completion of the following VCE Streams provides pathways to:

VCE (Scored/ATAR) Pathway > Provides an opportunity for Direct Bachelor or Associate Degree Entry to University*

VCE (Unscored/Non ATAR) Pathway > Provides an opportunity for Certificate III/IV or Diploma Entry to University or TAFE*

VCE VM (Vocational Major) Pathway > Provides an opportunity for Certificate III/IV or Diploma Entry to University or TAFE*

*If all entry requirements are met.

Parliament Of Victoria: Work Experience Expression Of Interest 

 

Expressions of interest to complete a work experience placement at the Parliament of Victoria in terms 1 and 2, 2024 are now open. Students can choose between two programs, Sitting and Services. Parliamentary Sitting placements provide the opportunity to see the law-making process up close. Students will go behind the scenes with the staff who directly support Parliament sittings, to get a deeper understanding of our democratic processes. Parliamentary Services placements offer a variety of opportunities that can be matched with a broad range of student interests and career goals, including business management, facilities management and maintenance, community engagement and broadcasting, and hospitality. Placements are open to students who are 15 years or over at the time of the placement. 

 

If you are interested, please visit https://new.parliament.vic.gov.au/teach-and-learn/work-experience/ to lodge an expression of interest, and let the careers team know. Expressions of interest will close at 5:00 pm on Friday 12 January. Interested students will be notified of the outcome of their expression of interest no later than Friday 2nd February.

Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary - Work Experience 

Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary offers engaging Work Experience placements for students in Year 9 and Year 10. Their Work Experience Program is designed to foster new skills in young people, create an awareness and appreciation of the conservation and biodiversity management industry and demonstrate the breadth of career opportunities in environmental science, research and education.

 

Successful applicants may assist in the following areas of the Sanctuary:

  • land management
  • plant production
  • education
  • biodiversity
  • marketing, promotion & interpretation
  • office & administration
  • workshops & tours

The Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary cannot offer any opportunities to work with animals. 

 

Work Experience placements run for one week from Monday to Friday on pre-selected dates throughout the year. Normal working hours are from 9.30 am until 4.00 pm. As part of your placement, you will be required to undertake some structured learning activities.

There are 4 places available for each of the placement weeks. A maximum of two students can come from the same school for the same placement week.

 

These dates are subject to change based on other Sanctuary activities happening at the time.

National Gallery of Victoria Work Experience Opportunity - June 2024 

The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) offers a limited number of one week work experience placements for secondary school students aged 15 and over. Placements are based with the NGV Learn Team and where possible with other Departments. Work experience in any one facet of the NGV cannot be guaranteed.

 

Placements are limited and they cannot guarantee a placement for all applicants.  

The NGV is offering work experience during the following week in 2024: Monday 24th – Friday 28th June 2024. 

 

Applications for the 2024 Work Experience opportunity is now open and will close 5.00 pm, 20th October 2023.All applicants will be notified by mid-November. Please ensure you have considered the travel time and distance to and from your home to NGV (Southbank) BEFORE you apply for a placement.

goIT Girls STEM Work Experience Program (aimed at female students in years 10 & 11)

Tata Consultancy Services’ (TCS) goIT Girls is inspiring women in STEM and challenging stereotypes again this year. In its ninth year running, this free week-long work experience program will have students learn all about the growing number of jobs available in STEM as future innovators, problem solvers and technology professionals! Participants will have the opportunity to meet with and be mentored by inspiring senior executives from the tech industry. 

 

About goIT Girls work experience program

 

TCS’ goIT Girls is a week-long work experience program aimed at female students in Years 10 and 11. At TCS, we are empowering Australian students with the skills they need to be ready for the workplace of the future.

 

Participants meet senior executives from TCS and its client organisations, who provide insight into the various STEM roles that exist across the business spectrum with the goal of inspiring a new generation of innovators, problem solvers and technology professionals. The aim is to provide insight into the technology industry and challenge gender as well as occupational stereotypes. 

 

goIT Girls has four areas of focus:

  • Provide insight into the technology industry, TCS and the application of technology in our client’s business.
  • Challenge gender stereotypes by showcasing women in STEM as role models
  • Build skills by solving a simulated business case through the application of technology
  • Enhance confidence and employability skills

goIT Girls will be offered as in-person or virtual experience in 2023.

Eligibility

 

In 2023 the program will provide opportunities for 100+ young women who are curious about a career in technology from around Australia to participate. Students do not need any prior experience with technology to participate in the program. There is no cost for your school or the student to take part in goIT Girls.
