Nurturing Excellence, Teamwork and Diversity at MGC

Principal's Report

As you launch into our latest edition of the MGC newsletter, I would like to celebrate how our college values continue to shine brightly throughout this publication.  This newsletter serves as a testament to the power of teamwork, the celebration of our diversity, and a force that propels us towards our own individual excellence.

Amidst these pages, you will find wonderful examples of diversity and teamwork that weave across the college. We are a richer community when we embrace diversity, when we draw inspiration from each other and, when we broaden our perspectives, promote creativity, and excel in an interconnected learning environment.

Congratulations to the incredibly talented and dedicated students and staff who brought the timeless musical sensation “Grease” to our new theatre. Our students brought to life their characters with energy, passion, and skill. The singing, dancing, and acting were impressive, and the audience was captivated across the four performances. The success of this production was a testament to the collaborative efforts of a team of students, teachers, parents, and volunteers. It was incredible to witness how everyone came together, contributing to make the production a resounding success. Most importantly, the students looked like they were having fun.

Over the past month our Curriculum, Careers and Student Engagement and Wellbeing Teams have been leading an enhanced course counselling structure. We have taken proactive steps to ensure students, parents and carers can engage and access the most accurate course information. The introduction of our dedicated Course Counselling Days bolstered the personalised guidance for each student. Course Counsellors were able to engage students and parents and carers in meaningful conversations, assess students’ strengths and support them with recommendations for an appropriate course. We will continue to review, reflect, and refine this process each year to ensure we are guiding and mentoring our students in the best possible way.

Your feedback is an invaluable tool that helps us shape and refine our strategies to create an empowering environment for our young people. I would like to encourage all our parents and carers to participate in our Parent and Carer School Survey, which was shared with families last week through our Compass Newsfeed. Your engagement in this survey reinforces the partnerships between our college and your family, where we work hand in hand to ensure together, we are meeting the needs of your children.

There are certain events, people and teams that transcend boundaries and can capture the hearts and minds of a generation, igniting the flames of inspiration and determination in all of us. The Matilda’s, our national women’s soccer team is one such team that has done just that. Their incredible journey has served as a beacon of empowerment and strength for many aspiring athletes.

At Melbourne Girls’ College, we have the privilege of supporting and standing alongside so many remarkable young people as they work towards becoming the best version of themselves. The journey of the Matilda’s reminds us that hard work, perseverance, and the support of our community, has inspired us to break barriers, challenge norms and strive for our own personal excellence.
