Assistant Principal's Report

Courage to Care:

On Tuesday last week all the Year 8s, 9s and 10s attended Courage to Care.  The program was to build on students’ current skills and supports for being an Upstander.  This was presented to them using the primary example of the Holocaust in WWII.  Students listened to Ros, whose mother survived this period with the help of five Upstanders.  Information about WWII and the anti semitic messages from Adolf Hitler were presented in images, movies and with artefacts.  Students then broke into smaller groups and unpacked the idea of Upstanding and gained great skills and strategies to help peers when things are not right and how to go about supporting them.  Our students were commended by all the facilitators on how they behaved, the respect that they showed and the amazing school culture that they demonstrated.

Mental health:

Students in Year 8 and 10 will be involved in Mental Health First Aid sessions next term.  To help support this and our students three staff members are attending professional development today in this area.

 Focus groups:

Focus Groups have started with the aim to improve the student voice and agency in the college.  The group of students were asked about wellbeing programs here at the school and if we were addressing their needs.  They gave feedback and suggestions, and this was taken back to the Student Engagement and Wellbeing Team to investigate.

There will be another focus group this week and we will be investigating inclusion.
