Facilities Upgrade - Toilets

Thank you to the parents and students that have provided feedback regarding the student toilets at the College. The feedback that has been provided demonstrates that we all agree that we would like to improve the school toilet facilities.

Whilst it is evident that only a small number of students are inappropriately using the facilities, current deterrents are impacting all students which has caused concern within the school community. The bathrooms should not be a place where students can engage in activities which are considered a violation of school rules and expectations.

It is not a simple fix. We all need to do our part in encouraging students to use the toilets for their intended purpose.

How do we do this?

We need to work together. As a school we need to encourage our students to take pride in their school toilets, refurbishing them will go a long way in achieving this – but this will take time.

Parents can also play their part by continuing to have open dialogue with their child/ren and encouraging them to report any concerns they have to a teacher as soon as possible.

The school has applied for a minor capital works grant to refurbish the student toilets, but we won’t have an answer to this grant until December. Rather than wait we have decided to engage an architect to assist in putting together a concept design.

Students will complete a survey regarding how they currently feel about the toilets and some design aspects they may like to see incorporated in the design concept.

We will seek further input from our college community as we progress the project.

Who will lead this?

The school will lead and implement this project, with support from the re-established Buildings and Grounds sub-committee of School Council.

Students will be encouraged to provide input along the way.

Parents have indicated that they are willing to support the school in improving the student toilet facilities and we value all feedback from all parents.

Timeline

The College sees this project as a priority.
