Primary School

Dear Collingwood College Community,

Dear families,

I can not believe we have reached the end of Term 3. It feels like winter was stretched this year! However, the sun is out and we have reached spring. It’s been a lovely term with lots of mini-events and a few major ones. We had to farewell Malory for a short period to go and have a bub (Still waiting) and welcomed Piaroj into our school community as the Class One teacher until her return. Katie.M also was welcomed back from family leave, it’s been lovely to have her back working in the Literacy support team.

It’s been a busy term with lots of excursions, lots of Tours, the Dental people, the Journey of Hope, local Kinders visiting us, us visiting local Kinders, NAIDOC week celebrations, The Class 5 play, Class 3 building furniture, Main program performing Arts performances, Chinese cultural day, grade 1 & 2 sleepovers and of course the amazing Book week and the unforgettable Swing into Spring. Not to mention the Kinder demolition work starting and the design concepts for the Side garden refurbishment also taking place.

Book Week

I like to start by thanking Alina for again organising this great event, lots of books were donated and over $600 was raised for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. I think it was the most successful Book parade we have had, with most of the students and all of the staff dressing up and talking about our love for stories and literature.

Swing into Spring

What an amazing event. To see our great community come together and celebrate Collingwood College. It was so lovely to see everyone, watch the performers and eat such delicious food. I thank everyone who helped out, with baking, cooking, organising, running a store, making Chai, purchasing items, cleaning and organising storage, and for your time.

Chinese Cultural Day

On Monday 11/9 the upper Primary school had the opportunity to perform for the lower Primary school as part of the Chinese Cultural Day, fire dragon dance, fan dance, singing, poetry recitation and lion dance were all showcased and performed.

The language teachers did an amazing job, a huge thank you to Beth our grade 3 to 6 Mandarin language teacher for all of her hard work with this event.

Class 3C Steiner Shelter Main Lesson

Class 3C Steiner Shelter Main Lesson A home provides shelter and protection, but it is also a place where we nurture ourselves, creating a safe place apart from the world. The class 3 curriculum in Steiner education explores shelter where the children explore creating this safe haven within themselves through building and learning about traditional shelters in the world.  Piers Brown, a carpenter and parent in our class community facilitated a 2-day building workshop with 3C. The children made stools, a mini rocking chair, tipis and created an igloo like cubby shelter. They also participated in free building activities which involved using chisels, hammers, mallets and nails. These activities were fun and interactive supporting the children to develop skills in team building, cooperation, and creative problem solving. Many thanks to Piers who created the activities and provided the resources and our parent helpers Max, Mio and Courtney.
