Principal's Report

Dear Collingwood College Community,

Stile Science Day

It was incredible to celebrate science at our school in such a fantastic way with the Stile team coming in and building a hydrogen engine in the library. Many thanks to Michelle for organizing this incredible event that our Year 7 to 10 students were able to participate in.

Wear it Purple Day

Wear it Purple Day this year celebrated diversity within our school. It was wonderful to see many members of our school community participating by wearing purple, along with our lunchtime disco, to support our school as a supportive, safe, empowering, and inclusive space for rainbow young people.

Book Week

It was fantastic to see so many staff and students across our Prep to Year 10 cohorts dressed up for Book Week. A particular highlight was the Book Week Parade. It was fantastic to see everyone's favourite books and how they chose to dress up as characters from them.

Kinder

I'm pleased to announce that the construction of the kindergarten began last week. This is a significant project to bring in the modular buildings. This work will continue throughout the school holidays and for the remainder of 2023 to be ready for opening in 2024. The area has been boarded up, so it will not impact the school's daily operations.

Year 8 Area

The building project for the Year 8 area has started. A strategic plan for this project has been devised, and demolition work will begin during the next school holidays. In 2024, we are planning to use this space for the MIP program. There has also been a relocation within the school, with the Chinese department now located upstairs near the old senior staff room.

Swing into Spring

Many thanks to the members of our school community for organizing such an amazing event to celebrate the beginning of spring. I'd like to particularly mention Hannah and several members of our school council who played instrumental roles in leading the event. It engaged our local parent community without whom we would not have had such a successful event. We were fortunate with the weather, and we saw a large number of students participating in various games, while the food was enjoyed by all. Thanks to all staff, parents, and students for their support. A special thanks to Rotary Interact at Collingwood College for their support in driving many aspects of this event.

Year 9 Camp

Our third camp of the Year 9 Journeys Program was a success, even though it had to be relocated due to flooding. The students had an excellent time.

Three-way Conferences

It's wonderful to see so many families joining us for three-way conferences from Prep to Year 10 this term. It's a great opportunity for our families, teachers, and students to collaborate on student goals and directions for the remainder of the year.

Stephanie Alexander Visit

It was a great pleasure to have Stephanie Alexander visit our Kitchen Garden this term. She had photos taken with our students for the Design Files article about a Day in the Life of Stephanie Alexander.

Timetables Prepared

As we work through our 2024 timetabling, our Year 11 and Year 10 students have already selected their 2024 subjects. Soon, our Year 9 and Year 8 students will do the same. This early work allows us to strategically timetable our staff based on skill areas and teacher preferences. VCE students will receive their timetable midway through Term 4.

Looking toward Term 4, it's a busy one with our whole school production, "Alice in Wonderland," many camps, a final wrap-up of Year 10s at the original Collingwood College campus, preparations for 2024, the Year 10 formal, and Year 9 to 12 exams.

I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable school holiday period, and we look forward to seeing you in Term 4. Many thanks to the staff, parents, and students for their support while I've been in the acting role. I'd particularly like to thank Sormeh and Lori for all of their support during this period.
