VM TRIP TO THE PROJECT

Introduction

The year 11 VM class has been recently learning and researching about ‘Understanding Issues and Voices’. And on Tuesday the 29th of August we went to Melbourne and were in the audience of ‘The Project’ (Channel 10).

What did we expect?

One of the first things I noticed was how small the recording studio was compared to the size I believed it would be. Also, the dozens of lights on the ceiling and how the operators used the many cameras around the room.

I did not expect the environment to be so lively and fun, it also was very fast paced. The time flew by, lots of information and lots of clapping because the show is very engaging all throughout.

Warm up Guy

Prior to entering the recording studio, we were introduced to the very enthusiastic ‘warm up guy’ whose role was to get everyone hyped and ready to make some noise for The Project. Whilst cracking jokes he explained how and when we would be clapping and laughing. He was very funny, organised and was great at getting everyone pumped for the show.

Celebrities

We got to see celebrities live who came on The Project that night, some of them I didn't know, so it was awesome to see. Mark Seymour, a singer and Sabri Suby aka Internet Daddy from the hit show Shark Tank attended the show. Mark Seymour had a showcase about his tour journey and Sabri Suby was talking about his experience on Shark Tank and how he chooses who to invest in. He definitely was a great comedic relief at the end after more serious topics on the news.

News Stories

There was lots of news that would go by fast, a story and then a little break and then another story. Topics on the show that day that stuck out to me included: a tradie being blocked from using a person’s bathroom in the house they were fixing, an 8 cm worm found in someone's brain and rising youth crime in Queensland.

How this Experience Changed how we view future Project Episodes

How much work actually happens behind the scenes?

Makeup artists applying makeup to the presenters every second ad break.

Camara people moving the camera around the small room in its correct position (the camera was very close to the audience’s heads when moving it around).

Without actually being in the studio we would have not known that there was a person behind the camera that was directing the entire audience.

To sum up our trip to watch The Project live.It was very enjoyable, we definitely learnt a lot about different jobs and people. Behind the scenes of a live audience was interesting to see how it runs, to experience the applauding and the fast paced environment.
