Semester Two Reporting

At the beginning of the term we invited families to provide feedback on our current reporting process. A small group of staff volunteered to become a ‘Reporting Team’ where they collated results and analysed the data presented. We received over 80 responses and as a result, we have made some changes to the Semester Two report.

Here is some of the data:

The most valued information in the reports are:

  • Generalised Comment (83.5%)
  • Progression Points marked against the Victorian Curriculum (75.3%)
  • Learning Habits (74.1%)
  • English Comment (63.5%)
  • Mathematics Comment (63.5%)

Learning Conversations are also a highly valued process for reporting to families.

As a result of the data gathered, the Semester Two Report will look a little different.

You will see a Learner Profile which highlights your child as a learner at St Mary’s.

You will also see feedback for English and Mathematics in the form of dot points, based on the curriculum. These will be easier to read and create a clear picture of what your child has achieved against the Victorian Curriculum.

The Victorian Curriculum Progression Points will remain as we are mandated to report on these.

We thank everyone for their input and feedback as we continue to make positive changes for all stakeholders.

Learning leading the way to change

Recently in Year 3 we have had learners Angela and Edi find passion and continued interest in teaching our community how to be better at caring for our environment. As a continued inquiry the girls have been creating posters and continued opportunities for those in their learning communities. It is impressive to see these learners take action and continue their quest for change on their own accord.

Year 2

It has been a busy start to Term Four, with Year Two learners becoming explorers of minibeasts in our environment. We had an incursion from Twisted Science, where we had the opportunity to closely examine a range of minibeasts and learn how to identify them based on features such as the number of legs and other distinguishing characteristics. We are looking forward to creating our Bug Hotels and Habitat Dioramas to apply our learning, showing how we can take action to care for our minibeasts.

Year Two learners have also been exploring time, focusing on how to read an analogue clock to the hour, half hour, and quarter hour. This has been a fun and engaging topic!

Year 4

In Inquiry, Year 4 learners are immersing themselves in the fascinating world of living and non-living things. As part of their hands-on learning experience, they are diligently caring for stick insect eggs, eagerly anticipating their hatching. Through this project, learners have honed their skills in classifying living things based on distinctive features. Their investigations have included the life cycles of both plants and animals, providing a comprehensive understanding of growth and development. Additionally, they are exploring the interdependence of living organisms, gaining insights into the intricate relationships that sustain life on our planet.

We look forward to our excursion to the Kyabram Fauna Park in week 9, where we will continue this learning.
