Music - Beginner Band
Creating Futures Together
The Wheelers Hill Secondary College Beginner Band have been busy preparing to perform at the Victorian School Music Festival on Thursday the 14th November 2024. The band is led by Harper Dawson and Kirsty Mechielsen, and rehearses each Tuesday morning at 8am. Over the past week they have also been dedicating additional class time to rehearsals in preparation for their performance.
On Thursday they will perform in front of a panel of adjudicators, and receive feedback directly after their performance from experienced concert band conductors and educators. They will also have the opportunity to see a variety of other school bands perform in the beginner concert band section, and hear the feedback provided to those students. It is a great way for the students of the Wheelers Hill Beginner Band to reflect on their successes as a band, and the ways in which they would like to improve, both as a band and as individuals. The festival also serves as a great reminder of how far these young musicians have come over the course of this year. Each student started as beginners on their instruments at the beginning of the year and have since made a tremendous amount of progress through practice and hard work.
The broader Wheelers Hill school community will be able to witness the achievements of the Beginner Band at the Spring Concert on Tuesday the 19th of November. Along with other school-based ensembles and bands, the Beginner Band will perform the pieces they presented at Victorian School Music Festival (VSMF).
