English: Summer Reading List

Next year will see a greater focus on developing the literacy skills of all students at the Academy of Mary Immaculate.  This, of course, cannot be achieved without your help.

To support your child, I ask that you encourage them to read their books over the summer break.  This will ensure that they begin the 2025 academic year prepared for a second, closer reading of the set texts.  Given the obvious link between reading and academic results, critical thinking and considered reflection, it is crucial that your child engage meaningfully in their English studies.  An important way to bolster this study is to read the texts alongside your child and use this as an opportunity to discuss the ideas a given text generates, the questions it raises, and the comments it makes about the world, relationships and the human condition. 

We also encourage your child to read beyond the set list.  Research clearly shows a strong correlation between recreational reading and literacy levels.  Your child’s English teacher, the school library and your local library are great sources for age-appropriate recommendations. 

The minimum requirement is that your child has at least read the first text set for study. This will put your child in an excellent position for their English work. Please refer to correspondence from Campion Education for estimated delivery times.
