ENPS School News

Introducing David Foley and Tandy Johnson

Principal News - Term 4 Week 5

Dear Parents

Last Friday our PFA led the  school disco in the hall. All students were able to participate and did they what!  I’ve never seen such enthusiastic and happy dancers share the moment. Maybe our lunch time Friday dance parties inspired them and with dress ups involved the children certainly partied.  The hall was dark and fully decked out with great party lights and balloons. Thank you to all of the families that worked so hard behind the scenes to make this a memorable event for our students!

Yesterday Glenn Ferrarotto spoke to our year 5 + 6 students about Remembrance Day.  We are fortunate that he was able to make himself available at this busy time. He spoke to the group about Remembrance Day as a memorial day since the end of the First World War to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty.  He invited the children to ask questions and shared information.

Yesterday some of our students participated in the State Athletics Championships. A big congratulations to all student who made to this high level standard in sport.  In particular, 1st in year 12/13 boys shotput and 1st in year 12/13 boys triple jump – Kobi B in year 6. What an amazing achievement.  Felix S came 8th in year 11 boys high jump which is amazing. Ariya O ran the 100 & 200m in multiclass and came 2nd and 3rd in her races but due to coding revisions she finished 4th and 5th overall.

School Uniforms:

At last Friday’s assembly I reminded students that part of our school uniform is plain single colour socks only. Ideally black, navy or white socks are best but we understand that sometimes there may be another plain colour worn. There has been an increase in students wearing bright coloured socks such as the Mad Mia brand that have significant embellishments and patterned socks are also inappropriate. These socks are not part of the student uniform and shouldn’t be worn. As communicated in term 2, students are permitted to wear green, gold or black leggings, shorts, skorts, pants as part of our school uniform. They are also permitted to wear the ENPS 100 year birthday t-shirt.

End of Year Events:

Teachers are also finalising end of year events for all year levels and we have our year 3 camp and year 3 + 4 Swimming program in December. There are Big DayOut and Big Day  in coming up to celebrate the end of 2024.

ENPS End of Year Community Picnic:

We have confirmed our Community Picnic for Wednesday 11th December. Start time is 5.30 pm. This is always a big social get-together and there will be many picnic rugs and lots of Christmas cheer. Eltham Rotary will set up a BBQ on the synthetic turf area outside the BER building.  Hopefully Santa can drop by for a visit.

School Lunches:

We have an issue with the crows and ravens in the yard. These birds are managing to get into student open bags and lunch boxes left outside. Class teachers will discuss this topic with their students and find solutions.  Warmer weather has arrived and we thought we could remind for parents about safe food handling practices for the school lunchbox:

  • Put a frozen container, such as a frozen drink, in the lunchbox with food that is normally refrigerated, such as ham and yoghurt. Alternatively use an insulated lunchbox or cooler.
  • Avoid including food in lunches that would normally be kept in the refrigerator, especially during the summer months.
  • When preparing school lunches avoid perishable foods which have just been cooked or warmed, such a hamburgers or boiled eggs. Such foods should be cooled in the refrigerator before being used in lunches.
  • Discard any leftovers and do not reuse
