Foundation-Grade 1 Miss Bennett

Week 6, can you believe it? We only have 5 more weeks together in the F/1 beehive until we're in the full swing of the summer holidays and.. CHRISTMAS (this is a very hot topic in the F/1 classroom, the countdown is on!) The past couple of weeks have been full of fun things for the F/1 students and there are still more exciting things to come for the remainder of Term 4. Over the last 2 weeks our two highlights are definitely KABOOM sports and icy poles on Fridays.

On Thursday, we attended the KABOOM sports at Kyabram P-12 Oval. We loved doing the warm up and getting into our numbered groups but our FAVOURITE thing was when we completed the KABOOM activities on the oval. The parachute, rings of fire and circus tricks were fan favorites in the F/1 classroom. Miss Bennett and Dani were so impressed with the behaviour and amazing demonstration of our school values from each student during the excursion. The highlight from the excursion was getting to meet other students from other schools in our area, when we got back to school each student in the beehive shared how they made new friends and which school they were from. We can't wait to see them again next year!

We can't wait for the next newsletter edition when we get to share with you all about our excursion to the Pevan and Sarah Concert for the Foundation/1 fun day out- we are on the countdown!!!

Classroom Sport :

To escape the hot weather last week we completed yoga in our classroom for our class Sport lesson. We loved trying some different poses, especially the one where we put our head through our legs and also the one where we had to try and hold ourselves up using just our hands!

Grade 3 Mrs Stock

This term is going by so quickly! There have been so many fun things happening across the school. The most exciting thing for us in Grade 3 would be welcoming Maddison Old to our class. Though she has just joined us, she has already made wonderful friendships and feels like she has been part of our school for ages.

We have also been enjoying our visits to the Tongala Aged Care the past two weeks. Seeing the faces of the residents when the students arrive is just beautiful. This week we made Christmas ornaments and Christmas cards. These visits really foster a sense of empathy, respect and community, while giving the students a deeper appreciation for the lives and wisdom of older generations.

This week, we also began our Sporting Schools with Michael Mascal, playing 'Pickleball'. The students came back to class telling me all about it and were even able to share some history about the game and how it first came about. They are all looking forward to getting back out there again next week and playing.

During Inquiry this week, the students learnt about music notes, positions on staff and the different sounds between notes. Students then worked in pairs to follow and create the music of 'Mary had a little lamb' on the xylophone.

Grade 4 Mrs Loughran

Maths

We have started learning about our new topic: Shape, looking at 2D and 3D shapes.  We are learning how to draw them using isometric dot paper and also make the shapes using their nets.  It’s going to be a hands-on topic, stay tuned for some exciting photos.

RE

The students have completed a wonderful poster to show their understanding of the unit of creation.  The students researched and gave examples of how they can explain to younger students how to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.  Take a look at our awesome posters.

Writing

We have been writing creative and imaginative paragraphs as an assessment for our Text Based unit.  Students had to write down what they could see in a picture including: who, what, when, where, how and why.  They then used that information to write a paragraph.  Students used their knowledge of adjectives and noun phrases to create an exciting paragraph.

Grade 5-6 Miss Rasmussen

In English, we have dived into the magical world of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. We’ve reached a fascinating point in the story where Polly and Diggory use green and yellow rings to travel between worlds, sparking engaging discussions and literary exploration. We are honing our skills in analysing character motives, understanding symbolism (like the rings!), and considering how changes in setting impact plot development. It’s incredible to see our imaginations come alive as we delve deeper into C.S. Lewis’s enchanting narrative!

In Maths, we’ve been cracking the code of algebra! We have made great strides in understanding how letters can represent numbers and finding missing values within equations. We’ve developed strategic methods to solve these sums, and it’s led to many lightbulb moments! Next, we’ll shift gears into our Money & Financial unit, where we’ll explore practical ways to manage, save, and make wise financial decisions—a truly valuable life skill!

Our Grade 5/6 cricket teams had an awesome day in Rochester at the Blast Cricket Carnival! It was great to see our students enjoying the competition and showing progress as the day went on. We loved being a part of it. A special shout-out to our Grade 4 girls who stepped up and played on the day! While in Rochester, we also visited the amazing silo art, including the new honeyeater mural. The students were blown away by how life-like the animals looked, making it a memorable experience.

Our pickleball sessions with Michael have been a hit (pun intended)! We’ve showcased impressive skills and enthusiasm on the court, and we’re excited to see our abilities grow as we continue learning more about the game.

The anticipation for our upcoming camp is reaching new heights! We’re gearing up with an information session next week to ensure everyone is ready for this exciting adventure. Queenscliff—here we come!

Musically, we’ve been having a blast experimenting with Boomwhackers, preparing a rousing rendition of “We Will Rock You” for our Inquiry Celebration. Our version of “Peaches” has also become a class favourite—though it tends to involve spontaneous singing and improvisation, making it an in-class special!
