Wellbeing Programs in Semester 2

 Wellbeing Programs in Semester 2

This year we received funding from School Focused Youth Services to run some programs around connection and engagement with school.  We used these funds this semester to run two wellbeing programs.  We ran “Art for Wellbeing” and the ICan Mentoring Program.

The I CAN Network program is an Autistic-led mentoring program and was delivered to a group of RHS students that identified as autistic or neurodivergent. The mentoring program empowers Autistic & Neurodivergent young people to have a sense of belonging, optimism, self-acceptance, pride and confidence. These 8 sessions were facilitated by 2 I CAN mentors and they did a fantastic job of building a rapport and connection with the students.  Rebecca Norton, RHS Mental Health Practitioner, was the wellbeing support person who ran the program and we had the pleasure of several Education Support workers also attending. Rebecca has been so proud of the students who participated and we are so pleased with how the students embraced this experience and opportunity.  There will be much more information regarding this program in the new year as we start looking at running the program again in term 2. For more information on this program please take a look at their website High Schools – I CAN®

“Art for wellbeing” ran over term 3 and 4 for groups of students from year 7 to 10.  This was facilitated by a qualified art therapist, Kirsten Sampson, along with members of the wellbeing team.   Students had the opportunity to use all kinds of art mediums throughout the program.  This included some tactile messy play along with amazing art work and some more targeted explorations of wellbeing.  There were some very positive observable improvements in connections and engagement over this program and encouraged us to look into facilitating more programs like this going forward.

Some of the students work was displayed in our art show early term 4 which was so exciting to see. Here are some of the art works that were created in that time.
