Lila: The project

Our project filtered water and used it for reusable purposes such as reusing it in the same household, donating it to less fortunate communities and using it to water The Victorian Gardens. We had a UV light that purified the water, a sensor which sensed whether the water was clean or not and sent it to three containers. We’re determined to reduce the water wasted each day significantly.

Darcie - The Experience

We arrived at the Brisbane Convention Centre and got ready to present. The judges and other schools started to come around and look at our project. We also got to go around and look at the other amazing projects. After that we went into these rooms with a person from NASA and we had to make something that would remind you of  home so we made a fidget toy with a photo in it. We then went into another room with a person from Mad About Science and she said that she thought that our project was really good. We are so proud to have gotten the opportunity to go to Brisbane.

Isabella - Our Goal

Our goal for the water cycle is to see our system in lots of household sinks.  We also want to help less fortunate communities and future generations be sustainable and lots of people get clean water  for life if they install it. Also get our water tank as well as our website up and running!!!!

Regional Hoop Time Report

After winning the Grade 3/4 Hoop Time Tournament at the end of Term 3, our All Star Galilee girls headed out to Nunawading to compete in the Regional Hoop Time Tournament.

Knowing it was going to be a step, the girls were focussed are ready to play!

Playing Glen Iris PS first showed the day was going to be very competitive. A back and forth game, high intensity which created lots of turnovers but lots of scoring. Leading by 1 point with 8 seconds left, Sophie J made both of her free throws to put us up by 3 points. Glen Iris tried to get the final shot off but our great defense saw us win and be 1-0. We were excited!

Game 2 against Solway PS showed that the girls were coming together as a team. Passing, pressing and scoring and winning the game comfortably by 20 points.

Game 3 proved to be a little more challenging with Templestowe Heights PS showing they were a very good team.  The girls first half wasn't our best but after half time we came out and scored the first 5 points, putting some scoreboard pressure back onto them. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough and Templestowe ran out 20 point winners.

Game 4 and our final game of the Round Robin saw us play Sandringham PS. This again was another high intense, free flowing game. Lots of scoring early but then it dried up for us in the second half. We went down by 7 points but the girls progressed to the Play off final as we finished 3rd, playing Sandringham PS again.

The play off final was simple, win and you’re through to the state finals or lose and you’re unfortunately done.

We were ready to play and knew what Sandringham PS had but didn’t start well. Trailing by 10 points early into the half, we couldn’t get any scoring happening. Sandringham were well organized and we came into the half down. Like the game against Templestowe PS, we came out after halftime and scored points quickly but the deficit was too much. We went down by 15 points.

A terrific effort from our Grade 3/4 All Star Girls, placing 3rd in the Region.

School Drop off and Pick up

School Drop off / Pick up & Road Crossing

We want to thank you for the families who left flowers and messages after Noel’s passing. Noel was a long-standing member of the Galilee community, always positive and loved helping students get to school safely.

If you use the crossing, please say hello to Brendan who has taken over from Noel. Brendan is diligent and tries to keep traffic flowing.

Our urban context can be useful to help students learn about safe crossing, as well as providing challenges and dangers. If you’re parking opposite the school, please use the correct crossing with a supervisor, to help all children learn safe crossing processes. There are a lot of opportunities for parking around the school on Bank St and Montague St where children don’t have to cross any roads, or only have to cross with crossing supervisors.

If you do want to come into school we encourage you to leave the 5 minute zones free and park a little further away, so that those spaces are free for drop-and-go.
