CULTURAL WEEK

Parade of Nations

On Wednesday 13th November we began our Cultural Week celebrations with a Parade of Nations.  We had over 30 countries represented in the parade and as you can see from the images below families had gone to a great deal of effort to represent their cultural heritage.

Discos

The celebrations continued on Thursday 14th November, with a professional DJ leading all of our Discos.  Students from Year Prep - 3 enjoyed disco sessions during the school day and our Year 4 - 6 students joined us later in the day for an evening disco.

Cultural Performances

We finished Cultural Week on Friday 15th November with a range of performances presented by various groups of students.   Many of these groups spent time rehearsing their acts with Ms Grippi.  A big thanks to Nneoma from Year 4 and her dad Eddie, who performed an original song, with a backing track that Eddie had mixed himself.  The images below show the range of talent that was on show throughout the day.

CHILD SAFETY

The Linewize platform helps schools, students and families to develop better digital habits, while also monitoring and tracking digital usages.  With St John’s now working in partnership with Linewize, our parents have access to an Online Safety Parent Hub, via the school’s website. This Hub has a wealth of tips and information for families.

Children experience tech tantrums for a number of reasons including interruptions in digital interactions and being heightened by the stimulating or rewarding nature of online activities.  Overstimulation occurs when young children spend more than two continuous hours on screens.  Limiting screen time to an hour or less helps reduce post-screen grumpiness.  In the article below parents can read about a three-step process for helping reduce the occurrence of tech tantrums.  The article has been written by Teodora Pavkovic a Child Wellbeing Specialist.
