Fantastic 3/4
Term 4 Week 8 2024
What have we been up to?
In spelling, students delved into the origins of the suffix ‘ful’ and roots ‘miss & mit’. Students have continued to visit the library, where they engaged with a growing variety of literature. In reading they have also been focusing on improving their reading comprehension by working with short passages and answering both literal and inferential questions about the texts. Book Club has continued and the students are thoroughly enjoying their texts and gaining new understanding for the author's purpose.
In Writing, students have continued exploring persuasive texts, focusing on how authors effectively use evidence and reasoning to support their viewpoints. They are now applying these skills to create their own persuasive posters about an animal of their choice. This project has encouraged them to engage deeply with research, gathering compelling facts and evidence to persuade their audience. The students have shown great dedication and creativity in developing their persuasive arguments.
In Maths, students are currently revising key mathematics concepts that we have focused on throughout the year. This revision helps consolidate their understanding and provides an opportunity to reflect on their learning progress. We encourage families to continue completing the homework that is sent home to reinforce their child's confidence and skills.
This term in science, students will learn about different types of forces, including electrostatics and magnetism, and explore their properties. They will investigate the relationship between force and the speed of an object, as well as how friction affects moving objects. The curriculum also integrates the perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, examining forces in traditional sports and games. Additionally, students will explore the forces involved in actions like throwing, dropping, bouncing, and rolling, gaining a broader understanding of physical sciences.
Homework has started again for the term! Each Monday students will now receive a sheet, which will include reading comprehension as well as a maths activity sheet. This will be due the following Monday. If students have not completed it they will be given the chance to receive help during a 15 minute homework club during recess time that day.
