As we approach the end of the year, I want to share many highlights from the LOTE program with our school and local community.
After inquiring about different emotions in Chinese, Year 3 and 4 students displayed their creative thinking skills by making their emotion flashcards using the 8 key vocabulary words.
Happy | Sad | Angry | Scared |
高兴 | 不高兴 | 生气 | 害怕 |
Bored | Worried | Tired | Excited |
无聊 | 担心 | 累 | 兴奋 |
Most of them could recall these emotions when I asked them in class or exchanged information with each other. At the end of the term, Year 3 and 4 learners had an exciting opportunity to use the paper plate to design one of their favourite emotions. On the back of the plate, they also label their chosen emotion in Chinese with the key sentence pattern, 我觉得。。。(I feel...).
How do you feel? | 你觉得怎么样? |
I feel.... (I feel + emotion). | 我觉得。。。 |
e.g. I feel happy. | 我觉得高兴。 |
Our Year 5 and 6 learners continued inquiring about other school subjects, such as Chinese and Drama. In Chinese, they explored the famous Chinese tongue twister (绕口令)as a speaking practice game. I let some students compete with native speakers when they read the different levels of a Chinese tongue twister, and they really enjoyed this activity. Later, they also learned about the fascinating Peking Opera (京剧) as a Performing Art in China. Students were amazed at this national treasure's history and cultural features. They designed facial masks to showcase their understanding and reflect on their learning. As critical thinkers and balanced learners, they also had an opportunity to create their school timetable and justify the reasons behind it.
I am very impressed with their overall learning progress in LOTE (Chinese) this year. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 祝大家圣诞快乐,新年安康!
