As we wrap up Term 4, we want to take a moment to celebrate the amazing progress we've seen across the board this semester. It's been a busy few months, and we couldn't be prouder of the hard work and enthusiasm that our students have shown. From reading and writing to math and beyond, it's been wonderful to watch each child grow and develop in so many areas.
Reading
Currently, we're diving into persuasive letters. Students are learning how to write informal letters, focusing on the key features and structure that make them effective. They're also exploring why we write these types of letters—to express opinions, ask questions, and even persuade others. We're pleased with how much they've already grasped and look forward to continuing to build on these skills throughout the term.
Writing
In writing, we’ve been focusing on informal letters. The students are becoming more confident at brainstorming ideas and turning those ideas into clear, well-organized letters. As part of their learning, we’ve encouraged them to write letters to members of the school leadership team. We’re excited that they’ll have the chance to hand their letters over in person at the school office. We're also working on CVC words (consonant-vowel-consonant words), helping students break down words into their individual sounds. The progress here has been fantastic, with many children now feeling comfortable with segmenting sounds and spelling simple words. Additionally, we’re teaching them how to form proper sentences, with an emphasis on capitalisation, spacing, and punctuation. It’s been rewarding to see them apply these skills in their writing.
Maths
In math, we’ve been focusing on the basics of division. Students have had the chance to explore this concept using a variety of resources, including manipulatives, to make the learning experience more hands-on and engaging. We’re helping them become familiar with terms like sharing groups, equal sharing, and leftovers—which are key to understanding division.
At the same time, we’re diving into the world of 3D shapes. The kids have been so excited to learn about these shapes, and we’ve had a lot of fun activities, including searching for 3D shapes around the playground and drawing them in their books. It’s amazing to see them so engaged and eager to discover more.
Excursion to Science Works
Looking ahead, we’re thrilled to announce that we’ll be taking our students on an excursion to Science Works on 12th December. This will be an exciting, hands-on learning experience, and we can’t wait for the kids to get involved in all the interactive exhibits. If you haven't already given consent for your child to attend, please be sure to do so on Compass as soon as possible.
We’re incredibly grateful for the support of our parents, carers, and the whole community. It’s been a wonderful year, and we can’t wait to see all the great things our students will continue to achieve in the next. Wishing everyone a well-deserved break, and we look forward to welcoming the kids back for the exciting new journey of year 1!
If you have any Questions, Queries, or Concerns, please do not hesitate to ask your child’s mentor teacher.
Kind Regards,
Argus/Xenica Team.
