Exploring Fibre Art
Having explored a range of Fibre Artists earlier this term including Magda Sayeg famous for her larger than life Yarn bombing, Victoria Villasana a Fibre and mixed medium genius, and Sheila Hicks, the mother of Fibre Art, students have used this inspiration in designing and creating a range of impressive weavings.
Aitken Hill students have been consolidating their weaving skills and improving their fine motor abilities while creating some truly impressive work this term.
Students have been practicing how to twist, braid and knot in various ways using yarn as their medium. We are so proud to see how they have shown immense anticipation and excitement for the projects they are undertaking.
Stick Weaving
In stage two of our collaborative Yarn art piece, each year level has been given the task of designing an individual weaving stick. Incorporating the techniques learned over the past weeks students have created a range of designs, patterns and intricate weavings . We are over the moon with all of their creativity and dedication to completing their artwork.
Prep to year 2
Preps to year 2 have been focusing on perfecting their twisting and incorporating those into their design.
Year 3 and 4
Grade 3 and 4s have successfully implemented a twisted weave whilst also attempting braids and varying square knot weaves.
Year 5 and 6
Grade 5 and 6s have been overwhelmingly interested in completing different weaves and incorporating them into their projects, including the whole school yarn bombing and weaving sticks.
Students will be participating in other yarn projects in the following weeks. The foundation to year 2 will be making pom poms and tassels. Year 3 and 4s will be creating a wools eye and the year 5 and 6s will be making pipe cleaner wrapped animals. The whole school will also be making yarn letters. We look forward to all their hard work and art they create.
